He's currently writing Green Arrow and Teen Titans over at DC.

Those of you who have read the James Bond comics so far (I am still collecting them so I don't want to start halfway through...), do you need to (or benefit from, I'm patient) read Vargr and Eidolon before the Hammerhead miniseries?

I've only read the first issue of Hammerhead so far, but I don't think you need to read either of those two first. They are separate story arcs.

They seem to really be going for it on the variant covers... 9 for #1 of Vargr, 4 for #2 of Vargr. I haven't even looked at #4-6:P Plus 7 for #1 of Hammerhead. Jeez!

I think that gets me about many of the variant covers is that they are basically the same thing with some minor changes. If you are going to put out a new variant, at least do something original.

Caught up on the first two issues of Hammerhead today. I'm enjoying the series, though it does feel like more of a general superhero book to me compared to the main book with Ellis and Masters

I read them both last night too. I like it, but it definitely felt very predictable haha

There seem to be 20 covers for Vargr #1.

Yeah, though that said I did like the scene where Bond feeds the guy to the shark. Also nice to see his more sadistic side come out

I did like that too. It reminded me of the first time that I saw Casino Royale, when Bond is getting his 00 status. In fact, the Daniel Craig Bond is darker in general. I think that Bond should have that darker side, because we all do, and you would certainly HAVE to in order to do a job like that. Not that I think James Bond should be mega realistic. Hopefully you get my point

P.S. Should we have a spoiler tag in the thread name? I think that it is obvious that spoilers are possible, but maybe to be sure?

I definitely agree that I prefer a Bond with a darker edge. While I don't think his films are particularly good, I think Dalton's Bond had some of that darker edge to him as well along with Connery's Bond.

As for the spoiler tag, is there a way to add it to the title or is that something the moderators would have to do?

I have no clue. If you want to talk something about a particular issue spoil it or don't in your post. The lack of interest beyond the 4-5 of us who've chimed in, I don't think it'll matter all that much. I started collecting Bond as a comic because I was dumping Marvel by the bus load, and never knew Bond hadn't been done in comic form. Ellis wasn't necessarily a sell for me but I enjoyed it, and will until it's either canned out from under me as a subscriber, or the art makes the story turn me off. I only read a handful of comics these days anyway, my pull list of 50-60 in my hey day are long ovah.

While I was always a big fan of the movies, I had never really got into the books until last year. The comic started around the time I was reading Casino Royale, so it was kind of perfect timing for me to pick it up. That and I needed a pick me up after Spectre left me sorely disappointed.

I've actually never read the books, I have so many books waiting haha I also agree about SPECTRE. I thought that I was the only person who wasn't keen, it felt like there was barely any Bond action in it at all. Like more of a soap opera than a Bond film. I'm hoping the next one makes up for it though!

I think the difference between Spectre and say Casino Royale for me can be show in their torture scenes. In Toyale, Bond is torture and you really see the physical and psychological affect it had on him after. In Spectre, he gets tortured and it's like nothing happened. He goes on to have a video game style shoot out. Also, I felt they wasted Christoph Waltz, which in itself is a dealing breaking sin. That said, do we know anything about the next one at this point? Last I heard Craig was out

Craig wants out, but they want him in. He actually disrespected the role a bit in interviews, but obviously we don't know what it is like to be Bond :P As for storyline, no idea!
