Haha I won't lie, after reading your thoughts on Light of my Death I kind of want to read it just to see how terrible this thing is to get that reaction from you.

And yeah, I don't think I've read anything that John Burns was the artist of before either.

Please don't, I'd rather that you didn't abandon James Bond comics altogether on principle - this thread would get rather lonely :P I wonder what we have to do to qualify for a James Bond forum haha

Haha well I stuck with Spider-man even after OMD, so it would have to be one of the worse comics I ever read to get me off of Bond. As for the forum, I feel like they would have to announce that a Bond TV show and new video game are coming out around the same time the next movie is for them to ever even think about giving us a forum.

Speaking of Tatiana, I really hope more characters from the novels pop up in the current run of Bond comics besides Felix and Tiger.

Also, I read the Body #2 today. Much like the first issue, I enjoyed this issue a lot. It's mainly a dialogue issue between Bond and another character, named Mrs. Cleese, with basically no action but I found it really engaging and well done. I also really liked the motivation Kot gave Cleese having for her actions in the story.

I hope so too, there is a lot to explore. I'd like them to touch on the effect of all the people that Bond loses during missions. I think part of the attraction of The Body, is that it needs no action

I hope they continue thinking outside the box and even get around to those pre-Casino Royale stories set in the 1950s that Dynamite said they were going to do when they announced they had rights to the character.

I didn't know about the pre-Casino Royale stuff, or are you referring to the origin story that they are planning? Anyway, I agree, it would be interesting

Another good video Enigma! You mentioned Felix being a detective during his mini-series. It was established in one of Fleming's books that Felix became a detective after the shark attack (I believe Diamonds are Forever). I loved the art during this mini-series ( I forget who the artist is) and agree that I enjoyed Felix's journey through out it. I was generally fine with the art in the MoneyPenny one-shot, though I agree that some of the faces were a bit...weirdly drawn. I liked the flashbacks they had in the flashbacks.

I am curious what future one-shots they may be releasing in the future. I wouldn't mind if they had the mini-series focus on Bond's adventures and devote the one-shots to Bond's supporting cast. I don't think we will end up getting too many one-shots based around the classic Bond villains since I think all of the well known ones were killed in Fleming's books. I am curious if they will eventually incorporate some of the characters from the movies who never appeared in the books (like Jaws). I would be all for bringing them in and seeing new stories with them. I also agree with you that while I enjoy aspects of both, I do prefer book Bond over movie Bond. That said, I think to a degree Connery and Craig Bond are a fairly good representation of Book Bond (I would probably put Dalton in that category as well).

Those are some awesome covers for those Bond comics you got! I haven't read any of the comic adaptions of the movies (or any of the Dark Horse Bond comics for that matter), so you will have to let me know whether they are worth checking out.

And I'm starting to think they are never going to release that Casino Royale TPB....

Felix actually got attacked in Live and Let Die; which was only his (and Bond's) second appearence. He's pretty much spent the majority of the books like that....which became awkward when Licence to Kill was adapted, and they did their best to keep it in the novel "canon" (Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker adaptations also tried to shoehorn film stories into the writing style of Fleming's novels; and actually kind of succeeded, oddly enough). Basically, Felix had to go through the same attack twice (although I think his LTK injuries were far more severe).

I think that meant Felix becomes a private detective in Diamonds are Forever LTK was definitely more severe, and the circumstances of it were harder personally for Bond too. I'm not sure that Moonraker succeeded in the style of Fleming though :P I think it's interesting that of all of the side characters, Felix is one of only a few who's fate I care for...

I agree that i don't feel like the movie Moonraker captured the spirit of the novel. Personally, I love the Moonraker novel and hate the movie version of it. Besides it having Bond in it and the main villain being named Hugo Drax, I feel like the movie has nothing to do with the novel. I haven't read the Spy who Loved Me yet, so I can comment on that. I do really enjoy the film version though. While Felix is probably the main supporting character I care about, probably because he is the most re-occurring and I enjoy his friendship with Bond, I do like learning about the fates of various other characters in the novels. Like in the novel of From Russia with Love, Bond notes that Tiffany Case (the Bond girl from Diamonds are Forever) lived with him for awhile but eventually left him because the argued all the time. Fleming including stuff like that I find fascinating and makes me more invested in some of the supporting characters compared to a lot of the movies where we never really hear about any of the characters again.

This is true. I think also, the movies are (after the first few at least) geared towards not just fans, but also 'one shot' action films. Whilst books generally lend themselves to people who want a deeper insight - films are bangs and whistles.

I'm currently reformatting all of the references for a paper which is due to be published, ehm, last week - we got an extension because of the snow :P To tame the monotony, I have the JB soundtracks on shuffle - any favourites?

Casino Royale, Live and Let Die and Thunderball get a special mention from me. Die Another Day gets the wooden spoon, followed closely by For Your Eyes Only.

Good luck with the paper! I agree that I really like the themes for Casino Royale and Live and Let Die (the theme for Live and Let Die is probably the only thing I really like about that movie). I also really like the themes for Skyfall and Goldfinger. Initially I disliked the theme for Spectre, but its grown on me over time.

I find that happens a lot, particularly with older tracks. I have M and the next The Body now, but no idea when I will read them :P

Haha I've had M for the past week but haven't got around to reading it yet either.

Also, I saw that they are releasing a new Bond novel at the end of May called Forever and a Day by Anthony Horowitz. Its going to serve as a prequel to Casino Royale. While I am usually pretty hesitant about prequels for well known books/movies, I am pretty interested in this book and am hopefully going to be able to pick it up around the time of its release.
