Default Mother Panic #1 Extended Preview

    13(!)-page preview right here.

Let this also be the discussion thread.

Looks like there will be a lot of flashbacks, and things start in media res, which deepens the mystery in an already-mysterious title.

    Okay, I'm interested.
Too soon to say if it will be good, miserable, or too pretentious, though.

I like the costume. Not so much the art. And yea, already too preachy for me. Guess I'm out

Maybe it's the "guns are not the most amazing thing ever" bit?

Besides that, I can't think of anything.

So what's the hook of this book? like why should I care about this character or premise?

Violet is a new vigilante in Gotham, and she seems to be out purely for personal vengence. That alone would cause some friction with the Batfamily, but there are hints that she's going to be willing to use lethal force, which is definitely not going to sit well with Bats. Part of the book is going to be seeing whether Violet will toe that line or not. Plus, she clearly has a history with Kate Kane, so that'll be delved into.

There's also a mystery element to the book. The people who are Violet's initial targets were associated with a boarding school she spent most of her life at, and right now there's a big question mark as to what this place is/was. Did they give her her superstrength? If so, are there others like her out there? Were they the ones to kill her father?

And what happens if Violet takes them all out? Will she keep going as a vigilante if she has no motive to do so?

There's another element of Violet having to care for her sick mother on top of all this. And this is just the stuff that's known.

In short: Violet is Bruce Wayne minus all the classy, selfless, morally upstanding parts, at least initially. She's pretty much a total ******* and that sounds interesting.

But not the Thomas & Martha Wayne Home for the Boys and Girls of Gotham? Because otherwise this is sounding a little familiar....

She was actually roommates with Selina and helped rescue a bunch of younger kids after the bombing.

Oh no, now that I've seen it in action I can't get this out of my head: The Mother Panic costume reminds me of Carrie Kelley's "Catgirl" costume design from The Dark Knight Strikes Again. What with the oversized head, fists and feet. General shape of it. Whoops.

I mean, I like the look of it here. The stark white makes her the focus of every panel and will make blood splatters appear a little haunting. Plus, the obvious contrast of what the color white typically symbolizes---peace, rebirth, purity, life, etc---with the brutal violence on display is fun.

    But. Can't unsee. >_>

Really want to find out who named her "Mother Panic", though. Or how that happened.

I'm definitely interested in trying this out. Gonna give it a shot.

Man, this book really doesn't hold your hand, I can tell. Neither a good nor a bad thing, just a thing.

It was pretty slow-moving, and again, mysterious. Not a whole lot to piece together yet. There's an artist who makes artwork from corpses... I think. Or just uses their blood? She kills people, that's the main point. Violet is after her and one of her associates, out of revenge. Even when she's made aware that these people are hurting children, she doesn't really care, so that's interesting. Also, Violet hates Batman. Any worries I had of her just being a carbon copy of Kate Kane were totally dispelled in this issue.

    Intriguing, very intriguing.

Are you talking about Mother Panic?
Didn't we just have something like that in Soule's Daredevil over at Marvel?
