    Default Favorite John Carpenter films

I love the works of Carpenter, I was curious if people on CBR were as big of fans of his as I am. Maybe we could turn this into a discussion of his work.

My favorites among his filmography are Prince of Darkness, Escape from New York, Dark Star, They Live, and the Thing, but I have pretty much loved everything he's ever done.

Big Trouble In Little China. One of the most quotable movies ever.

There isn't a Carpenter film I don't love, but Prince of Darkness has probably the most staying power for me, on rewatches.

It would be a toss up between The Thing and Halloween for me.

The Fog doesn't get nearly enough props as one of THE scariest films I've EVER seen.

The Thing is first by a large margin. After that, Prince of Darkness.

I was really surprised, when I finally got to see Someone's Watching Me, his made for tv movie, that there was an openly lesbian, non-villainous character that made it to the air. Carpenter really doesn't get enough credit for his commitment to the visibility of minorities and, really, the ethics of his movies. He's a better moralist than self-labelled moralists. And, the revisions he made and helped make to Big Trouble in Little China were groundbreaking. It seems a silly thing, but "maybe we should ask Asian Americans and Asian American casting agencies how they feel" was not a thing pre-Big Trouble. Just seeing that many Asians in an American movie about Asians kinda wasn't.
