Default Bruce's wilderness years and Joker

have they ever been expanded upon? The 7 years that he spent away from Gotham? And in New52 how did Joker's face get so screwed up?

In New 52 the Zero Year back up stories of Batman tell that, starting at Bruce age 19 learning how to drive awesome, plus the last training in Detective Comics #0.

In Post Crisis... I'll leave it to the seniors.

How Joker's face got screwed up is in New 52 Detective Comics Vol. 1 Faces of Death.

A little bit in The Many Deaths of Batman - it's a three parter from around Death in the Family about someone going around killing all the people that trained Bruce. I'm sure I'm missing some stories, but that's the only one I can think of in which Bruce's training is particularly central.

Post-Crisis expanded upon his travels quite extensively. Each #0 issue they did for the Batman titles for Zero-Hour showed Bruce during different stages leading up to his return to Gotham. Then there were the "Year One" annuals they did. Shaman from LoTDK did as well.
