Merry Clayton was the amazing back up singer on the Stones "Gimme Shelter". Here's her version of the whole thing.

I like Sheryl Crow but dear lord this was ****. It wasn't good and it only happened because as I discovered years later ; due to the whole Guns N Roses situation in 1999.

Ok the story was Rose re-recorded all of AFD in late 1990's with that lineup of Guns N Roses. Well it was basically to license the music out and get past Duff and Slash. The producer of Big Daddy wanted to use the new version of Sweet Child of Mine from Guns N Roses. But a lawsuit filed by Slash n Duff held that up. So to get to use the song they had Crow do a cover version of it.

Well they also had to use the non-cover as well. So in the end credits as a way to appease both parties (Rose and Duff/Slash) they had Sweet Child of Mine with half a live version from 1992 and it morphs at the 3+ minute mark into the 1999 version.

The story is supposedly that Paul heard about an interview where John had said some of Paul's new songs were silly and Paul wrote this song in response

One thing about the trailer for the Freddie movie...I'll bet my next paycheck that that part where the exec says "This goes on forever! It's six minutes long!" didn't happen or at least not the way it's in the trailer. Long songs were not usual at all during that era. "Bohemian Rhapsody" was was unique because it was a rock opera, stuff that The Who and Pink Floyd were taking whole albums to do, and condensed into a pop single.

One of the great voice of rock music has been silenced - Marty Balin, co-founder of Jefferson Airplane, died today at age 76. (The cause of death was not reported, but his family was present.) Here is a track from Jefferson Airplane's second album, Surrealistic Pillow (1967) with Marty Balin on vocals, performing a song he co-wrote. RIP, Marty.
