I remember this being on MTV in heavy rotation back in the day

What's funny is that the "story" seems almost like the treatment to an either supernatural film or super hero comics origin depending on which direction you wanted to go.

Of course Alice in Chains blew up during the Grunge era, but I always thought musically they came from more the metal/classic rock side of that genre. Putting this here cuz I thought Jerry Cantrell never got his due as a straight forward songwriter

On AiC's "Brother" Ann Wilson from Heart sings back up and it's not hard to hear the musical connection

I'm just sorta old enuff to remember being a little kid and "van culture" ( I'd think of them as "scary teenagers") was a thing. For whatever reason this is one of the songs I associate this song with that...

Having said that, I associate this song with starting high school a half dozen years later...

What made Dire Straits such a great live band was their ability to take their songs to another level on the stage. Each track would get worked on and added to until they were significantly longer and more varied than their studio counterpart. Here Knopfler takes 'Sultans Of Swing' to another level. This is taken from their Alchemy tour in 1983. The band were at their absolute peak here:

    John Cougar

John's doing a kind of awkward James Brown thing here. He gets a lot better at it a couple years later by the time of the "Crumbling Down" video.

Linda covers Stones and then Smokey! Her version of "You're No Good" was actually a smash hit at the time.
