Hillary was right!
Man The Funk lost another heavy with the passing of Ronnie Wilson of The Gap Band at age 73 couple days ago. He was preceded by Robert Wilson's passing in 2010 leaving only front man 'Uncle' Charlie Wilson as the surviving member of the world famous group from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Wilson brother with the cool ass glasses and mustache.
Some groups just mean different things in the macro, than others do. It can never take away from any who musically carried a culture but some musicians work have provided soundtracks to peoples lives. My favorite group from the 70's are the Ohio Players but I have no sentimentality with the group, I'm just a big fan. Music from The Gap Band takes me back to being a kid with the record playing on the big stereo in the early 80's. I can't and won't speak for ALL Black households in the 1980s but I can say all the Black households I frequented had at least a couple of The Gap Band LP's.
I'm so Gap Band I don't even rock with all the new Uncle Charlie music he's put out the last 15 years, God bless him though. He and the Isley's were just here on tour but I felt if I was gonna spend 300+ bucks for floor seats, I don't wanna sit through all the Charlie songs and only a brief medley of Gap Band records. I'm here for the Funk- Burn Rubber, Party Train, Early In the Morning... Anyway, producer, singer, writer, performer of several instruments and since their start they've been sampled and been some of the biggest influences on Hip-Hop,
Indeed, RIP Ronnie Wilson.Just because you're not for real.
Why you wanna hurt me girl.
Beefing up the old home security, huh?You bet yer ass.
The get the maximum effect of this jam doing it's job to lift a sour mood, it's gotta be the 12" record, not just the radio or LP Outstanding. The long one, and you don't even have to get through the whole thing, it works.
Beefing up the old home security, huh?You bet yer ass.
I hadn't thought about this song in a while, but yeah...huge hit back in the day.
Beefing up the old home security, huh?You bet yer ass.
No Limit records fans will remember their version of this.
