Just learned of the sad passing of After 7's Melvin Edmonds at age 65. Rest in peace, and thank you for the music.

Very sad about Melvin Edmonds.
We also lost the bass singers of both the Dramatics, Willie Ford, and the Dells, Chucks Barksdale, within a few days of each other.
Both groups did an incredible "battle album" once. This was the standout track:

The bass guys rarely get to sing lead, but here is Will doing a nice cover of Billy Paul's big hit, sharing lead with the others:

The Dells were the inspiration for (and creative consultants and voices) for the great movie The Five Heartbeats.

The Dells' 60 year chapter of music history actually goes back to singing harmonies for Dinah Washington in the mid 50s!

As noted on the In Memoriam thread, New Orleans legend Dr. John passed away. He wrote one of my favorite songs by a lesser known soul diva, Dorothy Moore:

I bought the new Dionne Warwick album, because I like supporting our legends while they are still around, but don't think I'll listen to it much. Her voice really did not age as gracefully as that of her peers.
I'll stick to her 60s and 70s output.
