Mallia Franklin, Jeanette Washington and Debbie Wright aka The Parlet... Incredibly talented singers with, of course, an incredibly talented band behind them

Much Love from The Parlet - Glenn Goins on the composition with Ron Dunbar and George... Bootsy on the bass on this one I think

No comment needed...
(Even Karl Marx is amazed and smiles behind his beard at the end of the drum solo! No joke! )

Original version of a song that became a huge hit for Incognito.
Vocal here by the wonderful Helen Baylor, who later opted for gospel music.
This is absolutely wonderful indeed, jean!
More beautiful ladies. The Curtis Mayfield cover is a gem! (Danny Krivit did a great Re-Edit of it btw...)
Erykah! (including of course her great Chaka Khan & Rufus cover )
A clever and funny vid. Love the song.

OK... I'll stop with this one... Janelle is so gifted!!!
Great stuff all around, Abe. I saw Erykah in concert once with Common as special guest.
Thanks, Jean!
I saw her once, at the Olympia in Paris, in 2010. I'm somewhere in the crowd - you probably can here me scream LOL!
It was great but we were also kinda expecting a guest star : Prince was around for some concerts in Belgium and in France IIRC. We learned the next day in the morning that he was in the audience, and that in fact he actually played with Erykah's band : an almost 4 hours aftershow in the New Morning in front of 500 lucky people.
It was 22nd of July, 2010. Look at that setlist :
01.Stratus
02.Brown skin (?)
03.I've never loved a man
04.Baby love
05.Beautiful strange
06.Sometimes it snows in April
07.Hair
08. (?) w/Uptown interpolation
-----Encore 1------
09.When will we b paid?
10.Que sera sera

16.Kiss
17.Cream
-----Encore 3-----
18.How come u don't call me anymore? w/Please please please
-----Encore 4-----
19.Shake your body
20.Everyday people
21.I want to take you higher
-----Encore 5-----
22.Purple Music / All the critics love u in New Morning
23.Dance (disco heat)

Piano Set
24.Diamonds & pearls
25.Raspberry beret
26.Starfish & coffee
27.Venus de Milo
28.Still waiting
29.Future soul song
30. "Oh New Morning" - Purple Rain
Synth outro
I missed that!!! AARGHHHH!!!
Every aftershow he made at the New Morning was legendary. The first one, IIRC, was after his second concert in Paris ever at the Zenith in 1986... Both are highly recommended! (You know why I give the exact date and place : some researches on the net may be interesting...)
Another few concert memories : Bootsy, with his brother Catfish and, among other classic members of the P-Funk, Bernie Worrell. Twice, in the middle of the 90's, at the Bataclan (which is sadly known for other reasons). Incredible! I did shake the magic hand of Bernie - and was stuck to Bootsy during the all time he was down with in the audience!
It's been a long time since I went to a concert : the last artist I saw was Janelle Monae. She was on fire and her band was incredible. Highly recommended!

Yeah, I caught Bootsy once, too. So much fun.
Very happy to have caught both Curtis Mayfield and Gil Scott Heron while it was still possible to do so, and Prince about half a dozen times.
Curtis Mayfield and Gil Scott Heron! Oh my... Lucky you! About Prince, I'm not surprised : I wanted to answer to some of your earlier posts just when you had to take a few vacations from cbr...
I was about to post some vids I found on youtube of the concert of Janelle at the Trianon, but my computer shot down! It was too hot for it! (No joke!) There are a few others : it's nice, but I don't understand people filming a concert tbh... I thank them anyway...
Talent, culture and sweat in a lovely place!
Here is a bit of a rarity, written and produced by Curtis Mayfield with Donny Hathaway on piano. The Fascinations were formed by Martha Reeves and a friend, before Martha quickly left the group to rejoin her former group and join Motown records. The Fascinations went on without her, this was their one significant hit.
