The next two are both by the same artist, and were big in the clubs back in the day.

I don't know if people even remember but Vanessa was Miss America once and there was a mini-scandal because Penthouse found some nude photos of her from whenever. But She bounced back pretty quickly a few years later with this song

The problem wasn't so much the nudity as the implied lesbianism... Prudish times.

Regina's voice was incredible at a young age, as witnessed by this song from her debut album. Written by the great Sam Dees.

Sam Dees got to write for some of the biggest voices in Soul music history. Exhibit B:

Exhibit C, a song Aretha recorded as duet with George Benson but sang solo live, impersonating George:

Millie Jackson on another big drama, big soul Sam Dees composition, in the tradition of "Woman to Woman" by Shirley Brown.

The track picked for a single release from Bettye Lavette's one and only Motown album? A Sam Dees jam.

    So smooth. So rough.

Sam is a great vocalist in his own right and has occasionally functioned as an additional Pip on recordings of Gladys Knight and the Pips. Due to a drooping eye, he didn't have the looks for a soul crooner, so this remained one of his few solo hits:

One of the tracks where Sam joined the Pips was the title track of the final album Gladys did with her legendary backing group before flying solo.
