Sly was a lot more revolutionary than a lot of people give him credit for. In a lot of ways he was a game changer. The sound of his music, the look of his group, the fact that it was an interracial band...

    Prince doesn't exist without Sly

+1 to Dad, thank you for this.
Without question James Brown is my favorite entertainer of all time.

Martin Scorsese directed this video. Yes that Scorsese...Mean Streets, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver etc. What I didn't know until a couple years ago was that the little mini film that precedes the music was scripted by Richard Price who wrote the novel "Clockers" which was turned into a film directed by Spike Lee.

New Edition is pretty much ground zero for a generation of boy bands. The Jackson five are like E=mc2 and NW is Oppenheimer.

From what I understand is that NW fired their manager and he deliberately said, "I'll show you, I'll start a white group!" And that's how we got New Kids On the Block.

I really like their 1996 album 'Home Again', especially this song:

Take my dreams, childish and weak at the seams
Please don't analyze, please just be there for me

Part 1 of the New Edition story came on last night. It's pretty good so far, anything with Wood Harris I'm usually into. Part 2 comes on tonight. This is probably my favorite BBD song. 9th grade baby!

    I APOLOGIIIZE!!
