Forgotten X-Men Character: Chris Claremont's Mutant

hey guys, need some help.

i seem to remember a mutant that chris claremont and (maybe?) dave cockrum designed but never used for the x-men. it was right around the time kitty was supposed to join.

don't remember a name for him, but he was deceptive. he wore a mechanical body but was actually a deformed little mutant with stumped limbs. very disabled, but the suit made him look human. i think he had some psychic power?

just curious if anyone remembers this, or can help me track down info on him.

Wasn't it a different Caliban? Basically it was before the Caliban we know was Created. Anyway it never came to pass and they used the name on the Caliban we know and love!
