"Drive" was massive when it came out. I did not buy the album but i think I know most of it from it being played constantly on the radio and MTV
The Cars from "Fridays" which was ABC's version SNL in the late 70's. Michael Richards and Larry David would gain fame 10 yrs later from Seinfeld started out on this show.
After this song was a hit, they started to promote the band as Patty Smyth and Scandal, then Patty went solo. For a minute it seemed like she might be the next big thing but...well. Her finest moment without the band was probably her cover of Tom Waits "Downtown Train."
