The Afghan Whigs - Going To Town
The Whigs had the talent I think to make it bigger, but for whatever reason they only had limited mainstream success. Here's them covering The Clash's "Lost in the Supermarket". What's interesting is it's based around the opening drum break from a completely different song "Train in Vain".
Material Issue. Another band that could have been bigger, but...
The Posies had a decent following back in the day. Although they weren't my favorites, I still have part of this song on a VHS somewhere.
Jane's Addiction - Pigs in Zen
.
Smashing Pumpkins - Daydream
Sometimes I wish I had my cassettes still. Cassettes themselves have become sort of vintage now.
