It took me ages to connect the Astonishing X-Men arc, Ghost Box (and the related Ghost Boxes mini) with Ghost Box Records, the hauntology label. Added a whole other layer, once that clicked.

As West Coast Avengers was the only place I'd ever encountered "How's tricks?" and as soon as a character says it, they apologize for it being impolite, I just assumed for ages it was something dirty.

And, I still don't know who Reg and Daphne are in an issue of Wolverine where he visited Muir Island.

Any allusions or references that mystified you for years, or to this day?

Well... Erik's.

What happened after was a sloppy retcon. Though I guess you could say "it was an illusion" or "he just cut the helmet off..." if you wanted to wiggle out of it. Wanda did it.

(Oddly, I just did an article on this story arc. Magneto was always coming back (he'd been "killed" just before Morrison started, too), but they couldn't have put something together that rang a little more true?)

X-Men #1 or #2, someone refers to Gambit as "all brass," and so I decided, in the face of all evidence against, that like Colossus, Gambit was made of metal. I probably held onto that for two years or more.
