Default How many people has the Punisher punished?

I'll admit that I've hardly read any Punisher comics, but I was curious and thought some of you folks might know - how many people has he killed?

The issues I've read are really old and it seemed like fatal punishment was his preferred form of punishment (don't know if that still stands)

I'm primarily asking about how many law breakers he has killed in 616 - cos Max was out of continuity if I understand correctly? But any Punisher death stats would be appreciated.

I'm expecting guesstimates, if anyone has an actual figure like 537 or something I'll be flabbergasted / sceptical

It has to be in the tens of thousands at this point wouldn't it?

Whatever the number. It's not nearly enough.

Am I right in thinking that he hasn't ever killed any of the big super villains of Marvel? He goes more for street level criminals?

Because he's not about "super." Not supposed to be.

I'm pretty sure his biggest kill that stuck was either a Stilt Man or someone on that kind of level at best. The nature of Punisher defies recurrent villains, or villains with super-powers so he never really got a recurring rogue's gallery of his own in 616 continuity - and there's NO WAY of transferring the likes of Nicky Cavella, General Zakharov (forgive the spelling) or Barracuda, his big recurring Max villains that aren't the Kingpin, to 616 without seriously, majorly toning them down.

It also follows that editors would be wary of letting Frank kill villains established with other heroes - the ones he most clashes with are Spider-Man and Daredevil and there is no way Marvel would let one of their big Spidey villains get gunned down by the Punisher. It just won't happen. There's a good example in Superior Foes of Spider-Man when the Punisher shows up and there is a collective staining of underwear... but it turns out to be a massive fake-out all along.

The Punisher is probably the greatest serial killer in history at this point.

If I had to make an estimation I would go with about 10,289,387. Give or take.

I think he killed a bunch of supers in Remender's run but they were proper D-List.

I think he killed Black Talon too but I'm not sure if that stuck.

He killed Black Talon (Samuel Barone) on issue #11 of Rucka's run. Until now he is dead.

Steve Wacker did count every Punisher kill since his first appearence until Rucka's run... 48,502k

The meta-answer is that the only person Frank is really punishing is himself... but he's really good at killing people that deserve it.
It's all just an opinion. Stop taking me so damn seriously.
