Every year, the superhero genre gains newfound levels of legitimacy with audiences and critics alike. What was once a film style centered entirely on spectacle has genuinely delved into some thought-provoking and heart-wrenching territory. That being said, most superhero movies are generally passed up for awards consideration, and it takes something truly special to buck that trend. Now it seems that Deadpool is that movie. In fact, the 2017 Golden Globe nominations have just been announced, and Deadpool pretty much dominated the nominations on behalf of the superhero genre this year.

With the announcement of the 2017 Golden Globe nominations, Deadpool continues to prove that it's a scrappy underdog that shouldn't be underestimated. The relatively low-budget, R-rated rom-com picked up two nominations this morning: Best Comedy/Musical, and a Best Actor, Comedy/Musical nomination for Ryan Reynolds. Considering this year's competition -- 20th Century Women, Florence Foster Jenkins, La La Land, Sing Street in the Best Comedy/Musical category, and Colin Farrell, Ryan Gosling, Hugh Grant, Jonah Hill in Best Actor -- we're not ruling out the possibility that Deadpool could easily go all the way.

Honestly, you're not going to hear a single word of complaint from us with regards to Deadpool's Golden Globe status. It completely deserves every honor that's bestowed upon it. After a decade long, uphill battle to make it to the silver screen, Deadpool managed to deliver insane levels of action and comedy, while also retaining a great sense of heart and sentimentality that few other superhero movies have managed to provide this year. Beyond that, on a shoestring budget of $58 million, the film went on to become the highest grossing R-rated movie in history, and garnered an impeccable 84% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Reynolds also won the critic's choice award for comedy actor last night(Margot Robbie won for actress). Deadpool might slip in the BP race with this news, it's a passion project that was well-recieved and made a lot of money. It's also not a sequel which works in it's favor
