No I had read it before and thought it was amazing first go round so I jumped all over the Omni on release day. The life that was breathed back into the languishing cosmic side was what really hooked me. What was good about this year was I had finally put together (I think) all the premium format Cosmic/Thanos collected editions (Marvel needs to Omni IW, IC, Abyss, W&IW, and the Thanos 2003 series) and have now read it straight through the end of RoK. I read the Warlock MMW's last year so they were still fresh in my mind. Now I need to put together my post RoK reading order for Thanos, but that might have to wait since they have announced the final Starlin trilogy at which point my interest in the furtherance of the character will end.

Zot #28-36: The Earth issues of Zot take the series in a different direction, as Zot gets stuck on Earth in the domestic dramas of high-schoolers and those in their orbits. Groundbreaking at the time, it still works now. Even the excess earnestness (which McCloud cops to in the supplemental material) works in a series about a guy from a more innocent world coming to understand ours.

Xenozonic Tales #1-13: Schultz's series about an apocalyptic future where dinosaurs and man share space is clever, especially in the ways the world is slowly build up, from shorter EC style morality tales to something more epic.

All-Star Section Eight #1-6: Over the top Hitman follow-up. Sometimes rather one-note.

    Ultimate Spider-Man #45-46:

    Spider-Man II #1-5:

    Amazing Spider-Man #252-254:

    Superman: Earth One Volumes 1-3:
Solid accessible reimaginings of Superman that are about something (the need for one person to do the right thing, the difficult choice Clark has to make to be an ordinary man when he could be rich and happy) and do it pretty well.

Total So Far: 1,817 Issues, 55 Graphic Novels

Personal Challenge Progress: 100 Issues from the 2010s complete, 100 issues from the 2000s complete, 100 issues from the 1990s complete, 100 issues from the 1980s complete, 100 issues from the 1970s complete, 100 issues from the 1960s closed, 38 issues from the 1950s, 31 issues from the 1940s, 100 black & white issues closed, 100 issues from Comics Journal's Top 100 complete, 52 Graphic Novels complete

I've met most of my challenges, but unless I plan to spend the next three days solely reading comics I'm going to fall short of the 2017 comics.

I fell short with older comics although one factor is that many of those are published in different formats (IE- The Fantagraphics collections of artists' EC comics work is a different package than the original singles; I'm not going to read the non-Plastic Man issues of Police Comics.) I did read a few stories in the first six months before I set up that sub-challenge, so an earlier start might help next year.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

So got closer to my total for this year than I did last year. A slow patch around the middle of the year took me away from hitting the goal.

    Spider-Verse - 28 issues
Decent, nice mix of characters and semi interesting story. Some amazing art though.

    Realm #1 - one issue
Fantasy isn't my genre of choice but this was interesting.
Regression #1 - too light for a comic, read it too quickly.

I'm sure I read a few other single issues recently but I haven't jotted them down.

Bumping my post for my final 2017 count. Didn't quite make 2016 numbers, but I was able to experience a lot of the MU that I had always wanted to. I started picking up MMWs last year for material that is unlikely for Omni IMO and man I wish I had been able to get in on the ground floor on that format. The age of the material slowed me down, but I think Bronze Age Marvel just might be my favorite. They had enough history for call backs and depth; however, there was still enough new territory to explore and not enough history so as to be oppressive. The Sixth Gun has been awesome as well.

Last day of the year folks! Congrats to everyone who was keeping track regardless if they've managed to complete the 1000 issues, it's all for fun.

Last year I've made a best of and worst of list but honestly I can't remember anything that was too horrible this year, maybe only stuff that I've started but didn't really get (Elektra omnibus) or some that didn't really live up to its reputation (Death note).

As for the best: probably my favourite series this year was Sunstone and the biggest surprise too, I was really hesitant to read this series because I'm not into erotic fiction but it did a really good job of defining itself as something different.
Sejic is also possibly my favourite artist of the year along with Schuiten, Katsuhiro Otomo and Adrian Alphona.

Some other series that were almost the best: Transformers phase 2 (especially the 2 twin series), Nimona, DD by Brubaker, Alex+Ada, Phonogram, Ms Marvel and a good chunk of the Valiant universe (controversial opinion but I really enjoyed Q&W too) especially Ivar since it's a nice standalone Doctor Who story.

Managed to wrap up Batman: Year One at the last moment. Don't get all the praise. Maybe because it's so ingrained in Batman lore at this point, but I enjoyed many other books/stories much more than this (Sandman for example)

    As promised, yearly awards!!

    Best Series: Velvet

Honorable Mentions: Black Hammer, Daredevil (Brubaker), Wonder Woman (Rebirth)

    Best Artist: Steve Epting (Velvet)

HM: Dustin Nguyen (Descender), Chris Bachalo (UXM)

    Biggest Surprise: Cannibal

    HM: Black Hammer, Peter Panzerfaust

    Biggest Disappointment: Hard Boiled

Dis-HM: Snotgirl, Batman: Year One, Kraven's Last Hunt

Most Unnecessarily Long Title: War of Kings Prelude: Road to War of Kings Omnibus

    Happy New Year everyone!!

just flipped through Descender yesterday when I got it and yeah, that book is gorgeous! Also Velvet was great too, dunno why I didn't mention it, it's such a fun ride and begs to be am ovie or tv series.

Not sure what to tell you about year one, I think you have to look at it as something that was never done before. Sorta like Batman begins, which redefined the tone for superhero movies (well, maybe that was the Dark knight just because it was more successful but Batman Begins started it).

I buckled down and had my biggest reading month of the year in September - most issues, most series, and most publishers! It helped that I had to do a lot of sitting around and waiting for things to happen without any of my worldly possessions but with tons of digital comics available (we just moved to New Zealand, and our shipment of belongings didn't arrive until 9/27). I'm still pretty far off my goal of reading 2017 issues this year, but I think I'll wind up pretty close.
I finished reading my 2017th comic of 2017 just eight minutes shy of midnight. It's been quite a journey! I've learned a ton about DC's Universe, caught up with much of current Marvel, and *vastly* expanded my reading of smaller publishers like Vault and Aftershock.

I've attached graphs of my reading pace and my ratings distribution, because what's the fun of reading 2017 comics in one year if you don't analyze and visualize the data!
