And with that I have hit the 1000 issue goal. I wasn't sure i was going to make it this year. I've been pulled in so many directions this year. Over the past couple months, reading comics is all I've wanted to do with my free time. This has been one of my favorite entries.

I'm in the late 60s with Travis Starnes Complete Marvel reading order. After 1965 the silver age gets a lot better, and as I'm approaching the 70s it is getting better by leaps and bounds. Except for Iron-Man. Those haven't been great. I'm enjoying them just enough to keep going. The sad part is Marvel Unlimited is starting to have gaps in it. That only gets worse the further you go. I've already had to skip a couple Nick Fury Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. issues. Which is a shame.

I've never been a huge Spider-Man fan, but these SA issues are making me one. It is the most consistently good title out of any of them. The support cast is also top of the list.

I reread the first 6 issues of Walt Simonson's Ragnarok, but this time i went through slowly and really took in the art. I'm waiting for vol. 2 to go on sale digitally.

The Inhumans back ups in Thor were really good. Kirby's artwork really clicks for me on those.

I can see why people don't like those early Captain Marvel issues, but i have a soft spot for Marvel Cosmic so i'm taking in every detail with those and Silver Surfer.

The art is what keeps me looking forward to more Silver Surfer issues. That one with the first appearance of Mephisto is great. Each book has a better pacing than most because they had 41 pages to work with.

That is the first volume of Spirou & Fantasio i've ever read. I enjoyed it enough that I went and bought 5 other volumes that were on sale. Cinebook should really have a little intro at the beginning of each volume explaining who the main characters are and their personalities.

Never read Punisher before and decided to pick up the Omnibus after reading 4 issues from Ennis (2 from the 2000 series and 2 from the 2001 series). The owner of my LCS made me a great deal on it. It's a really nice and fun book! Love it. Really liked the new Punisher #218 too so probably will wait for the trade and pick it up.

Didn't really get into Watchmen. Bought the Deluxe because I keep hearing it's a must read and everything but the first issue left me a bit lost and not sure that I like it that much but definitely will keep reading it and see what I really think then.

Captain America #695 was really good and can't wait for the first trade to come out.

Criminal is good so far but was hoping more. I'm a fan of Brubaker and liked it but thought it would be better since I keep hearing that it's one of his better work etc..

Fear Agent is weird and not sure will continue (read it online). Hack/Slash Resurrection was ok but probably won't continue.

Highlights for this months are: Punisher Ennis, Chew, I Hate Fairyland, Captain America 695.

I am in the middle of The Last of the Innocent in Vol 2 of Criminal and as a whole work the way he weaves all the different series together is what has made me so impressed with Criminal. The totality of it makes for such a palpable world IMO. I would give it more of a chance than just the first arc. Although I was hooked by the end of Coward.

Fear Agent is weird and often times I was wondering what the heck was going on, but I pushed through to the end and that is where all the praise is deserved. The last arc not only pulls all the strings together so that all the sudden a light comes on, but is one of the most moving last sequences in all of comics I think.

Your opinion may differ, but both of these series require much more than a small dose to see where the hype comes from in my experience.

I have a friend who had to start Watchmen 3 times to get into it but when he did he loved it. You just have to be in the mood (sad, nostalgic, bit depressed). Also don't read it as a superhero book, it's not that.
Fear agent starts out as a fun pulp sci fi romp but after a while it becomes this over the top space opera about a man who is kinda almost the embodiment of toxis masculinity and that causes his downfall but he is willing to turn the world upside down to make things right. The ending of that series always gets to me.

I agree, the last half of fear agent is where it gets special and all the praise becomes deserved. Although i can understand the argument that maybe it shouldnt take that long for a story to engage a reader. Too much much good stuff out there to trudge thru something (relatively) mediocre
