    update:

Daredevil by Brubaker Omni v2 (18) - Strong finish to a great run.

    Uncanny X-men by Bendis HC v1 (16)
Uncanny X-men by Bendis HC v2 (21) - I know this run has it's share of haters, but i enjoyed it (and ANXM). It seemed pretty focused reading it all together, and i actually liked most of the new mutants (especially Eva) that were introduced.

Spider-Gwen HC v1 (12) - This was an interesting read. While I enjoyed it, I was really more intrigued about the new universe and its own uniqueness. If marvel 1610 is dead (like, for good) then I'd be all for using Gwen's universe and her book as a springboard for some new version of the UU. I think an expanded universe has a place in the world of Marvel, but unfortunately for the UU, it ran its course.

    687 + 67 = 754 for the year

    WARNING: SPOILERS may follow.....

Well Work/life has caught up with me so I didn’t have enough time to read a lot or comment on everthing. But heres what I got for the month of September

    Hawkgirl (2006) #s 50 – 59, JSA Classified (2005) #s 21 – 22, Hawkgirl (2006) #s 60 – 66 (19 issues):
This was a nice series that i bought as it was coming out. Re-reading this before possibly binding it. Great series with Walt Simonson and Howard Chaykin that built upon what Geoff Johns, Brubaker, Gray and Palmiotti had done before.

Astonishing X-Men (Vol. 4) (2017) # 3 (1 issues): An interesting issue that flips the Dynamic with Prof X narrating instead of Shadow King and as Chuck tries to get through to Logan.

Green Lanterns (2016) # 30 (1 issue) : Sad to see some of these first lantern characters get killed off so quickly...and ill be sad to see Sam Humphries leave this book.

Letter 44 (2013) #s 1 – 35 (35 issues): ok this was an interesting sci fi story with a poltical bend with clear use of Metaphorical characters for Presidents Bush and Obama. The Premise is President 43 leaves a letter to President 44 telling him that the reason the nation is at war is because Nasa discovered that aliens are building what looks like a weapon in space and what better way to prepare then to go to war? Its not super amazing but it has its charms. Soule is becoming quite a favorite of mine.

Green Arrow (Vol. 7) (2016) # 30 (1 issue) : Great issue with fun interaction in space between old friends Ollie and Hal.

Secret Empire Omega # 1 (1 issue) : Nice wrap up to Secret Empire with the new Steve Rogers with the original memories confronting Hydra Cap (Civil War Confession style) who is a great villain for the future. Winter Soldier is in Madripoor trying to find out if Black Widow is alive just as her funeral is taking place back home. Samuel Jackson Nick Fury is seemingly hunting Frank Castle /Punisher who is himself hunting Hydra Agents.

Superman (vol. 4) (2016) #s 29 – 30 (2 issues) : Wow DC should put Keith Champagne on Superman permanently ! These were two great iisues in which we got to see Clark take on Parallax and Sinestro.

Action Comics (1938/2016) #s 985 – 987 (3 issues) : Wow , one of my favorite comics is still on fire! Two issues that were fill in s by Rob Williams which were great! Mr Oz takes

Dark Knights Metal # 2 (1 issue): Wow....This is just wow...i don’t know how else to describe this is sooo good.

Teen Titans (Vol. 6) (2016) # 12 (1 issue) : Same as above. Damian. Oliver Queen . Harley Quinn. Killer Croc. ‘Nuff Said.

Uncanny Avengers (Vol. 3) (2015) # 27 (1 issue) I read some good reviews of this book. I didn’t hate it but what little good there is not enough for me to come back.

Supergirl (Vol. 6) (2016) # 13 (1 issue): Strange issue. It was ok with Kara taking on the Emerald Empress and Indigo ruining Kara’s image with the public. The ending seems to sugest that Mr Oz/Jor El just killed his brother Zor El. I hope not. If Oz really is Jor El then this is a missed opurtunity. Weird thing...it feels like i missed something...how did Zor El stop being a Cyborg?

Justice League of America (Vol. 5) (2017) # 14 (1 issue) : Ok...this issue was actually kinda OK. Lobo was great as usual and Orlando’s characteriazation of Killerfrost and Batman were ok. Nice to finally see some movement on the Ray Palmer front as well.

    All-Star Superman (2006) # 1 – 12 (12 Issues): My annual or so re-read of this incredible neo-classic.

New Super-man (2016) #s 1 – 14 (14 issues) : Wow , i was totaly impressed by this book . its my first time reading something by the writer and i know Vicktor Bogdanovic from Action comics of course. Great story , Art artwork and Great characters! Didnt think i would fall in love with the Justice League of China like this!

Dark Knight III 1 – 9, Dark Knight Universe Presents: The Atom #1, Dark Knight Universe Presents: Wonder Woman #1, Dark Knight Universe Presents: Green Lantern #1, Dark Knight Universe Presents: Batgirl #1, Dark Knight Universe Presents: Lara #1, Dark Knight Universe Presents: World's Finest #1, Dark Knight Universe Presents: Strange Adventures #1, Dark Knight Universe Presents: Detective Comics #1, Dark Knight Universe Presents: Action Comics #1 (18 Issues):
Wow i totally did not know what to expect with this series. I had been avoiding it like the plague. I have to say its the best thing written by Miller (albeit its co – written by Brian Azzarello) in a looooong time. I would totally buy and ongoing series about thse characters on Earth 31 , written by this team.

Ninjak (2017) # 0 ( 1issue) : A modern origin for Ninjak. A little decompressed but its not too bad.

Wonder Woman (Vol. 5) (2016) #s 26 – 30 (5 issues): Not bad at all. Obvioulsy not as good as Ruckas run, however it actually fits well with that run despite its flaws.

Nightwing (Vol. 4) (2016) #s 22 – 28 (7 issues): Seeley , brings back his game here with a nice follow up to Grayson. Ironic that he’s leaving soon.

Nightwing (Vol. 4) (2016) # 29 (1 issue) : this was another Gotham Resistance tie – in to Dark Nights metal. These Tie Ins are amazing. Seeley writes a great Damian and Olver Queen here. Gorgeous art as usual from the grieviously underrated Paul Pelltier.

Batman The Read Death # 1 (1 issue) : Same as Above but with Willaimson and Giandomencico, did not see Barry Allen being very much like his prime-earth self and then merging with his Bruce Wayne. Im loving Dark nights Metal and if It keeps it up I think this crossover will be a classic.

Green Lanterns (2016) # 31 (1 issue) : Another great issue by Humphries and co. Nuff Said

Green Arrow (Vol. 6) (2016) # 31 (1 issue) : A great conclusion to the hard travelling hero story arch. Great interaction between Oliver and the Justice League. They offer him membership and he politely declines! And great set up for the upcoming Gotham Resistance/Dark Nights Metal tie – in!

    Punisher /Batman Deadly Knights (1994) # 1 (2 issues)

    Batman The Murder machine # 1 9 (1 issue)

    Suicide Squad (2016) # 26 (1 issue)

Marvel Legacy (2017) # 1 (3 issues) Meh. Not worth your 6 bucks! Thanks to my friend for letting me read her copy!

    Cable (Vol. 3) (2017) # 5

    Justice League of America (Vol. 5) ( 2017) # 15 (1 issue)

    Action comics # 988 (1 issue)
The Dark Knight Returns The Last Crusade (2016) # 1 (2 issues)

Total issues for September : 141
Total issues for 2017 so far : 970
    And then there were none...

I buckled down and had my biggest reading month of the year in September - most issues, most series, and most publishers! It helped that I had to do a lot of sitting around and waiting for things to happen without any of my worldly possessions but with tons of digital comics available (we just moved to New Zealand, and our shipment of belongings didn't arrive until 9/27). I'm still pretty far off my goal of reading 2017 issues this year, but I think I'll wind up pretty close.

    Usagi TMNT. 1 issue

    Muppet Robin Hood. 1 issue

Dr. Doom and the Masters of Evil. #1-4. 4 issues

    Future Quest #1-6. 6 issues

    New Total: 770

We'll start it off with one of my favorites on the list. DC: The New Frontier. I haven't read very many DC comics. Mostly because of time/money. Maybe that's why i liked The New Frontier so much. The art is great and is the reason i read the book in the first place. But it helps that it is very tight, contained narrative. It helps that I'd been looking at some older collections. I at least had a concept of who Adam Strange and the Challengers of the Unknown were. I got so hooked into this book that i basically read the whole think in one sitting.

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi gets a resounding 'meh' and is going on the sale pile. I'm having a hard time getting the desire to read vol. 2.

The Duck Avengers is very solid. I'm contemplating buying these in trade. I picked up the first 6 issues in a comixology sale. This series might be my favorite of the material that IDW has translated (I wish they would release an english version of Mickey Mouse and the Sword of Ice.)

Dr. Doom and the Masters of Evil is very silly. But the ending is pretty funny so it works if you know what you're getting into. I could see someone hating this if they think they're getting a serious Doom story.

Future Quest was a lot of fun. I watched most of these cartoons as a kid and enjoy the first three seasons of Venture Bros. This volume has a lot of setup and explaining to do but it all fits together nicely. I would buy it if i thought i would reread it, i probably wouldn't. Looking forward to volume 2 whenever its available on Hoopla.

Incredible Hulk #235-237: A relatively bland conclusion to Jack Kirby's Machine Man run, as Stern and Buscema tie up some plot points and pit X-51 against the Hulk.

1985 #1-6: A love letter to late bronze age Marvel highlights how scary the Marvel villains are as they crash into the real world circa 1985.

The Amazing Joy Buzzards #1-4/ Volume 2 #1-4: Fun merger of multiple genres (rock stars, luchadores, Hellboy style monster hunters.)

Fantastic Four #82-93: An interesting year of the title appropriately collected in one Marvel Masterworks volume. Multi part stories pitting the F4 against some of their classic enemies. It's a period criticized for a lack of innovation, and padding, but it's quite readable and has some of Kirby's splashiest art.

Plastic Man #2-7: Fun golden age superhero stories, with a hero and sidekick who can be rather subversive (IE- the hero is willing to betray the police when his friend is wanted, the sidekick tries to help crooks escape jail in order to collect the reward.)

Graphic Novels #44-46: The Color of Water/ The Color of Earth/ The Color of Heaven: Beautiful coming of age drama on the romantic travails of a teenager in Rural Korea, and her widowed mother, highlighting their bond and the daughter's discovery of what the world is like. Both specific and universal.

    And some Spider-Man...

    Amazing Spider-Man #181

Ultimate Marvel Team Up #12-13, 15-16

Total So Far: 1,540 Issues, 46 Graphic Novels

Personal Challenge Progress: 100 Issues from the 2010s complete, 100 issues from the 2000s complete, 58 issues from the 1990s, 63 issues from the 1980s, 62 issues from the 1970s, 71 issues from the 1960s, 15 issues from the 1950s, 31 issues from the 1940s, 58 black & white issues, 100 issues from Comics Journal's Top 100 (adding the Plastic Man and Fantastic Four issues)

Best of the Batch: I'll go with the Latveria saga from Lee/ Kirby's Fantastic Four. It's probably the best Doctor Doom story of the Silver Age, capturing some of his complexity as well as what makes him terrifying, while also providing a commentary on totalitarianism.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

    update:

Batman: Cataclysm TP (18) - First half of this was a real slog, and the epitome of everthing I hate with these "all inclusive" collections*. I mean, how many POVs does one need to get the picture of how devastating this natural disaster was? After that was out of the way, the narrative remained focused more or less for the rest of the book. Was really looking forward to the NML collections, but honestly, i hope there's more to them than this.

*This is my major issue with the competionist mindset (you know who you are). Adding every tangential mention from other issues really just bogs down any momentum the main narrative hopes to gain. And before someone says, "I'd rather have the issues than not" or "you can just skip them", i think that misses the point. These collection should strive to make the strongest, most cohesive "story" possible, and that doesn't necessarily equate to "all inclusive"

TMNT IDW HC v5 (15) - Another good offering. Managed to dodge spoilers enough to be surprised by the ending. Got a little slow with the Ghostbusters crossover (again, where do you draw the line?).

Royal City TP v1 (5) - Lemire is probably the best in the business right now at these "slice of life" stories. Always a welcome change of pace from capes, sci-fi and/or fantasy which seem to dominate the market.

Seven to Eternity TP v1 (4) - Opena's art was great, as expected. Story was solid. Gave me a LOTR vibe, with a ragtag crew on a journey in possession of dangerous cargo everyone's seemingly out to recover.

Extremity TP v1 (6) - Another sci-fi/fantasy tale I've heard good things about. Deals with a son and daughter who might be at odds with a father consumed with revenge. Was decent imo.

Black Magick TP v1 (5) - I've been impressed with all Rucka's recent creator owned work. I bought this and wasn't even really interested in the premise, and he managed to pull me in regardless. Intriguing story.

Rumble TP v1 (5) - Another fantasy (see a trend? lol) dealing with revenge. I liked this quite a bit, and found the two human companions very entertaining.

    754 + 58 = 812 for the year
