I have a friend who says Sleeper was "ok". Just...okay. We have a lot of differences in our fundamental beliefs (he is a devout catholic who is sort of misogynist and I'm an agnostic sort of feminist) but this might be the one that breaks our friendship.

I quite liked it, despite the story being disturbing at times I can see the intent of the author. With all that happens to Peter it's understandable that he renounces to become an adult. I'm not so sure about linking the story to that of the Ripper, there are quite a few coincidences there with the doctor's presence at the same place and time that feel a bit forced. And I have to say that the actions of Tinkerbell in the last volume are what shocked me the most, not really unexpected but they come out as cruel, and how she returns to the group made me feel kind of impotent. Hope it's not too spoilery.

A great mature story, but quite depressing, so it's one I'll reread only when being in the right mood. It seems it's a constant with the author, 'la quete de l'oiseau du temps' left a similar sour taste in my mouth. As for your friend, maybe the self-delusional main character and all the adult aspects of a tale that's considered for children, probably because of the Disney movie, is what put him off.

I thought that Ripper was a bit weird too at times, but it was a good weird. I mean, I love anything with Ripper in it

Also, yes that was a joke. Imagine how awkward if he had actually died

I was disappointed in Loisel's Pan as well. Gritty, adult version sounded really appealing but didn't deliver overall. It wasn't bad by any means, but i remember it feeling drug out. Might have benefited from being condensed a bit.

ok...a very slow couple of months for me...I took a three week vacation from work and read absolutely nothing and then when I came back a few colleagues and I were taken to a resort by our boss for a "workcation" where I read a little. Made up for it in the last few days I think by hunkering down and reading all 48 issues of Saga. I read the first 5 issues or so when they first came out and absolutely hated it.. I was literally bored by it and couldint continue. I picked it this time and read through the 48 issues and loved it this time. Its not the greatest thing ever but its very entertaining and addcitive. Not much more can be asked for from a book I think.

    update:

Fables HC v6-7 (18) - More solid work, but the editions seem to be getting smaller. Feel like this series could have easily been done in 10 deluxes.

Hard Boiled HC (~6) - This was terrible. The type of Morrison-esque nonsense that i can't stand in comics. TBF the art was incredibly detailed, down to the smallest, seemingly insignificant object. Maybe that was the point of this work, to showcase Darrow. But his art isn't my cup of tea, so this won't be able to be sold off quick enough.

Bloodshot Reborn HC v2 (14) - more good stuff from Valiant and Lemire

Secret Empire HC (12) - talked about this on another thread. Well written and executed in my opinion. One of the better events I've read in a while.

    1045 + 50 = 1095 for the year

I would say so. I hadn't and there was a lot in play already i wanted to know more about. You can still kind of piece it together as you go. Hopefully we get some kind of collection in the future.

Yeah i had the same issues with the Silver Age material i read. It just takes longer. Was that your first time reading Annihilation? What did you think of it?
