    Avengers #186 Aug 1979
    "Nights of Wundagore!"
Quicksilver, searching for his sister, has been rescued by Bova, servant of the High Evolutionary.
Bova tells Quicksilver about both of their history; of how Magda came to Wundagore heavy with child,
of how Bova was midwife to Magda when Pietro and Wanda were born, of how
the High Evolutionary intended to give Robert and Madeline Frank the twins in addition to their own,
of Madeline's death and Robert's inability to deal with his loss,
and finally how the High Evolutionary gave the children to Django Maximoff and his wife.
But Quicksilver is still left with two burning questions. Who is his father? And where is Wanda?

Wanda is magically bound by Mordred atop the mountain, but she uses her
hex power to break free, and a magical battle ensues. A battle which she loses, badly.

Quicksilver is saying goodbye to Bova when his sister's face appears as an apparition
in the night sky, but it threatens Quicksilver to leave and lashes out with a lightning bolt!
Quicksilver runs down the mountain and encounters Django. They get attacked by magically animated trees but escape.
Braving a number of arcane assaults, they reach East Transia, where Quicksilver places a call to Avengers Mansion!

Vision answers the call and rushes to inform everyone. Just as they start getting ready to go, Gyrich nixes the mission,
claiming that there is no US security interest. Wanda isn't an active member, and they don't need another international incident.

Steve Rogers goes to make a call. Beast and Gyrich trade insults,
then Gyrich gets a call from the President authorizing the Avengers mission!

Back in East Transia, Django and Quicksilver are ambushed by Wanda. Except it's not Wanda... she is now possessed by Chthon!

Flashback cameos by the High Evolutionary, Magda, Jonathan Drew, Robert Frank, Madeline Frank and the Toad.
Avengers Lineup: Beast, Captain America, Falcon, Ms. Marvel, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision and the Wasp.

Plot by Mark Gruenwald and Steven Grant. Script by David Michelinie. Pencils by John Byrne. Inks by Dan Green.

Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #4 Aug 1984
    "Situation: Hopeless!"
The forces of Doctor Doom have forced the gathered heroes to flee and destroyed their headquarters,
a victory for Doom and his minions in Beyonder's on going Secret War.
Spotting their foes fleeing the scene, Titania and the Wrecking Crew begin tossing debris at the heroes.
Goaded on by Volcana, the Molecule Man one ups them all by using his powers to raise a mountain from nearby and dropping it on their enemies,
seemingly killing them all in one fell swoop. While the others cheer, Doctor Doom is not entirely convinced that was the end of their foes.

Elsewhere on Battleworld, Thor and the Enchantress are still having their private council about the Beyonder.
Recalling the Beyonder's offer to grant them their fondest desires if they slay their enemies, Thor asks what the Enchantress could want.
When she specifies Thor's love, he tells her that love is not an object that can just be taken.
Their discussion is suddenly interrupted by a massive earthquake.
They quickly teleport back to the heroes base to see what is going on and appear in the middle of Doctor Doom's army.
When Doom demands the Enchantress choose a side, she hesitantly sides with Doom and the others attack Thor.
While the villains keep Thor on the ropes, Doom commands Ultron to use his disintegrator ray to destroy Thor.
Ultron seemingly succeeds in atomizing Thor, leaving nothing but his helmet and a scrap of his cape behind.
After this second seeming victory, Doom recounts that the X-Men were not among the heroes and that their work is not yet done.
However, he pauses to deal with some more pressing business first.
Recalling how Kang tried to kill him when they first arrived on Battleworld, Doctor Doom orders Ultron to kill Kang.
The time traveler tries to beg for his life, but it is of no avail and Ultron slays him.

Elsewhere, the X-Men are flying across Battleworld, seeking out Magneto. En route, Colossus takes the time to
think about his girlfriend back home, the youthful X-Man known as Sprite and wonders if he will ever see her again.
Rogue is also deep in thought, thinking of how not too long ago she would have been on Doom's side of the Secret War.
As the X-Men prepare for whatever their encounter with Magneto will bring, the Master of Magnetism
is using his powers to create a mental comb for his guest the Wasp to comb her hair with.
Suddenly the pair are interrupted by the arrival of the X-Men.
Xavier asks Magneto to join him, telling him of the good they can do if they operate as a third force outside of Captain America's group.
Magneto agrees, suggesting that they use the Beyonder's offer to create a golden age where mutants rule over humans.
Hearing this, the Wasp drops her pretense in being interested in Magneto and attacks.
She then manages to slip past the X-Men and get to their ship but finds it incredibly difficult to control.
When Magneto tries to stop her from escaping with his powers, Xavier stops him, recounting how he made a grave error erasing
Spider-Man's memories earlier and that they should not interfere with the others, that using evil means does not justify their good intentions.

Meanwhile, buried under tons of rock are the heroes, who have survived thanks to the Hulk holding up the rock with his strength.
However with a number of them injured and a limited supply of air, time is running out before they either suffocate or get crushed to death.
Quickly thinking, Mister Fantastic cannibalizes some of Hawkeye's trick arrows, Iron Man's spare power pack and one of Spider-Man's
web-shooters into a device that allows the Human Torch and Captain Marvel to channel their powers through Iron Man's armor.

The device works and boosts Iron Man's armor significantly to blast their way free from the mountain.
Upon getting free, the heroes find Thor alive and well, and he explains he escaped
a certain death by temporarily blinding their foes and making a hasty retreat.
Needing medical attention for some of their allies, Captain America sends Captain Marvel off on a recon mission to find someplace for them to go.

CM finds a village at the base of the mountain where Galactus is standing.

Soon the other heroes arrive and the locals prove friendly and immediately take in the wounded champions.
They quickly discover that one of these aliens, Zsaji, can heal with a touch. When she heals the Human Torch he is instantly attracted to her.
Then, Ben Grimm expresses to Reed his concerns about being so close to Galactus when suddenly he transforms into the Thing again.
When Ben asks why this is happening, Reed hesitantly tells him that he'll think about it, however, he knows more than he is letting on.
Reed then turns his attention to Galactus and is horrified when he sees the world devourer raising his hands to the sky.

Meanwhile in New Orleans, Captain Marvel visits her parents Frank and Maria Rambeau.

Starfox and the Wasp encounter the She-Hulk at a party thrown by 'Sylvia' Sersi, secretly one of the superhuman Eternals.

Captain Marvel reveals her costumed identity to her parents!

    Uncanny X-Men #247 Aug 1989
    "The Light that Failed!"
Before it is able to deal a death-blow to a beaten Rogue,

the Master Mold finds itself under attack by the newly arrived X-Men.

Using teamwork, the X-Men are able to apparently destroy the Sentinel,
only to realize the battle has already taken the life of an innocent; Senator Kelly's wife, Sharon.
With little warning, the Master Mold springs back to life.
Using newly generated defenses and weapons, the rejuvenated Sentinel seems more than a match for the X-Men.
Realizing that she still has the Siege Perilous in her possession, Dazzler throws the crystal amulet toward the Sentinel.
The Siege Perilous grows to a tremendous size, large enough for the Master Mold to pass through.
Rogue, sensing Dazzler's plan, uses her powers to push the Sentinel through the portal,

but not without being dragged inside with it.
Kelly blames mutants for his wife's death and ensures Shaw that his Sentinel project will get all required funding.
Elsewhere the Reavers are plotting revenge on the X-Men, unaware that they are
being watched by Nanny and the Orphan Maker, who want the X-Men for themselves.

"Live Free or Die!" Part 5 of 6.
On the Brood colonized world Madrizar, a recently captured Acanti is infected with the Brood slaver virus.
Suddenly, the Brood all turn at a bright light in the sky. It is the last thing they see.
Binary unleashes her full fury upon the world, and devastates the Brood utterly. She frees the Acanti from its shackles, but it telepathically informs her that it is already infected,
and there is no way to reverse the virus. There is only one way for it to be free, and Binary grants its request. Carol leaves the planet and runs into... Storm.

Carol is confused by Storm's appearance out in the middle of space. On the one hand, Storm cannot survive in vacuum.
On the other, she was also implanted with a Brood embryo and should be dead.
Storm reveals that she purged the embryo from herself in an act that basically did kill her, and that this was an astral form. She takes Carol back to her body.
On entering Storm's Acanti-body/host through its mouth, they re-unite with the X-Men. The X-Men tease Carol about the explosive decompression she caused leaving the Z'Reee Shar.

Lilandra and Wolverine favor a vengeance mission back to the Brood homeworld, to kill the Queen and as many others as they can. However, Storm offers them another way.
She explains that when the Brood first came to their universe, they discovered the Acanti, large but gentle creatures that made easy prey and excellent starships for them.
In their early raids they captured the Acanti prophet-singer, who shepherds the souls of the Acanti and without whom the Acanti are a doomed race.
His corpse is the skeleton on which Sleazeworld's city is built.
Now a new prophet-singer has been born (Storm's host), but the Acanti racial soul needs to be freed from the body of the old prophet-singer.
If they release this soul, the newly born prophet-singer could come into his full power, and lead his people to safety.
The soul is located at the base of the Prophet-singer's skull, in territory, Wolverine knows from his previous experience on Sleazeworld, is occupied by creatures even the Brood fear.

Cyclops proposes Binary and Storm distract the Brood while the others teleport down from the Z'Reee Shar (i.e. from within the Acanti) and make for the soul. The next "day", Storm/Acanti
does a flyby of the skeleton and the X-Men head to the transporter room and beam down to the surface. The Brood take the bait, and the Queen demands the Acanti's capture.
Suddenly, a Brood telepathically contacts the Queen, informing her of the X-Men's plan (and letting us know that one of the X-Men has begun his transformation and is playing double agent).
The Queen refuses her daughter's request to kill them, and assembles a hunting force to capture them.

Planet-side, Wolverine leads the X-Men towards the soul by following its 'scent'. Top-side, the Brood think they have the Acanti when suddenly Binary zooms in, springing the ambush and
devastating the Brood fleet. Down below, the X-Men are fighting their way through a mixed group of monsters. Kitty gets grabbed by something, and phases through a wall to avoid it.
Cyclops and Wolverine verbally spar and Wolverine finds both the verbal sparring and Scott's berserker battle attitude out of character.

Kitty finds herself in the middle of a large nest, a nest with a pile of Brood skeletons nearby! Fortunately, no parent seems to be nearby.
Mildly disturbed, she carefully makes her way out of the nest, unaware that she is seen and followed.

In space, numbers finally begin to take their toll, and Binary is overwhelmed and neutralized.
Storm is about to flee to save the nascent Prophet-Singer, but then suddenly the Starjammer drops out of hyperspace!

Below, Wolverine - disliking Scott's recent attitude - maneuvers to get a scent, and what he smells displeases him. Lunging at Scott,
he pulls the visor off to reveal Scott has begun his transformation into a Brood queen. He blasts Wolverine and Colossus,
and then the Queen springs her warriors upon them, stunning Lilandra and Nightcrawler. The X-Men all unconscious, the Brood Queen makes them her prisoners.

Kitty has been on the run from Brood patrols since shortly after she left the nest, and finally her endurance is spent.
The Brood capture her, when suddenly a soft "ahem" is distinctly heard, and then the corridor fills with flame!
Kitty, vaguely shocked by her rescue, is further surprised to find her rescuer is a pint-sized dragon.
One last Brood interrupts their meeting with a blaster shot, narrowly missing but opening a hole to a brilliantly glowing chamber.
Mesmerized, both the Brood and Kitty are compelled to walk into the chamber!

The Brood hunting party is making its way back to the royal crèche when the Brood/Cyclops loses control of its optic blasts, knocking the Queen for a loop, and Scott gains control briefly.
Wolverine takes advantage of the confusion to maneuver himself into taking a hit, freeing himself from his shackles. As the young Queen re-asserts itself over Cyclops, Wolverine knocks it out.
Then, taking advantage of the Queen being momentarily unconscious, threatens the other Brood with her death if they don't drop their weapons and release the X-Men - they comply.

Shortly, the X-Men find a crystalline chamber, and Kitty walks out to greet them. She tells them a Brood that came in with her was turned to crystal in the chamber - judged by the Acanti's soul
and found wanting. The X-Men resolve to enter, and the Queen insists on accompanying them. Suddenly the X-Men notice the Queen is corrupting the chamber - as are they
(At least, those still hosting queen embryos). Wolverine commands a withdrawal, but the Queen takes advantage of the distraction to stab him. He cuts off her stingers while they are in his back,
and collapses before picking himself up again. The other X-Men begin their transformation into Brood, and Wolverine pops his claws and moves toward Kitty!
Suddenly, Binary swoops in and prevents him from finishing her. Wolverine tells Carol to forget him and save the Acanti.
The Queen tells them that even if they killed her and all the other X-Men, another Queen embryo exists - and that it imperils Earth.
Binary ignores the Queen and the X-Men and instead somehow uses her solar affinity to distill the soul-essence from the chamber and return it to the Acanti young prophet-singer.

The passing of the soul kills the embryos - restoring the X-Men to health, and turns the Brood Queen to crystal!
The X-Men are teleported out by the Starjammer just moments before Sleazeworld explodes from the stress of Carol's actions. Kitty wonders what became of the dragon.

Epilogue: Storm is restored to health, the X-Men are wounded but recovering. The Acanti are free.
However, Wolverine points out that the Queen claimed there was an embryo which imperiled Earth - and that could only be Charles Xavier.

Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel both have terrific fathers. Fingers crossed that the MCU will have Ms. Marvel's father be portrayed in live-action in the same respectable manner in which the MCU depicted Captain Marvel's father Frank Rambeau!
