So I haven't found a good source for this, but there is some discussion over at Super Mega Monkey related to this. In particular, Walter Lawson's post is the culmination, but a few other posters reference it as well.

I will say this, the timing kind of works. While Byrne said he designed the Hellfire Club and they would have been first referenced in X-Men, they would have debuted in Ms. Marvel first (with the possible exception of Jason Wyngarde). Wyngarde wasn't likely intended to be Mastermind at first and the reference to the Hellfire Club could have been scripted in later. Similarly, Jean Grey was basically a non-factor in X-Men for a while and was slowly being replaced by Colleen Wing as Scott's love interest until two things happened almost simultaneously: First, Mary Jo Duffy took back Misty and Colleen so Claremont couldn't use them regularly. Second, Ms. Marvel was cancelled. Once that happened, Jean came back with a vengeance with Proteus followed by Dark Phoenix.

I would love if there's a source. All I can say is it's not completely impossible.

Talking Happy 65th Birthday George Pérez!!!

    X-Men Unlimited #13 Dec 1996
    "Fugitive From Space!"
The X-Men arrive with Binary at the UN Starcore space station, hoping to resuscitate its energy core.
Suddenly, Shi’ar commander K’illace arrives to arrest Binary, claiming that her powers make her a threat to the universe.
A blast of energy teleports everyone to the Shi’ar Empire, where they discover Binary’s powers are out of control and K’illace is injured.
As Binary struggles to drain energy from a defective white hole star she created months earlier, the X-Men petition Deathbird to spare her life.
Lilandra sends a message, warning of another threat, the Silver Surfer.
She claims that Silver Surfer recently destroyed his home planet of Zenn-La and is heading into Shi’ar territory.
The X-Men meet Silver Surfer in space and travel to the remains of Zenn-La, where he proclaims his innocence.
A bio-technic force called the Inciters is now occupying Zenn-La’s remains. Beast deduces that the Inciters
were behind framing Silver Surfer, manipulating Binary’s powers and the disruption of the white star.

Silver Surfer uses his cosmic surfboard to defeat the Inciters.
The Shi’ar send the heroes home, although Lilandra refuses to reveal the existence of the Inciters to her people.

    Plot by George Pérez https://13thdimension.com/the-george...nity-gauntlet/,

Carol Danvers aka Binary must make a decision that will determine the fate of millions:
"I can't let the Sun die. I can't let the Earth die.

    Lilandra... The Shi'ar...
The billions of potential victims of the Nega-Bomb...
Nothing is as important to me as my home!

I am of the opinion that for the Marvel Cinematic Universe the MCU Rogue is the perfect means to depower the overpowered MCU Binary into the MCU Warbird!

    Avengers #184 Jun 1979
"Death on the Hudson!" Part 2 of 2.
Crusher Creel, the Absorbing Man, was trying to sneak away to a small South American country.
However, the Avengers have thwarted that ambition, and now he squares off against Earth's mightiest heroes!
They tussle, and finally Iron Man gets on his back and siphons off most of the electrical power running through him.
Weaker, but still powerful, Creel tries to get the upper hand, but Iron Man judo throws him into a warehouse.
Ms. Marvel and Beast go in pursuit

while Iron Man flies into the upper atmosphere to discharge excess energy.

Back at the mansion, Gyrich is wondering what's taking Captain America so long to recruit Falcon. They finally arrive,
but Jarvis informs them of the Absorbing Man battle and they rush off to the sounds of Gyrich complaining about paperwork to be finished.

They arrive just in time to see the Beast seemingly having captured Absorbing Man.

Unfortunately, Absorbing Man touches Beast, making himself as agile and throwing Beast off him.
Cap throws his shield, which Beast quickly explains was a bad idea!
The now 'secret super-strong alloy' Absorbing Man looks mean, but Ms. Marvel isn't phased.

Iron Man joins the battle, but surprisingly his blows do nothing, and Creel clocks him.
He grabs Sandy again and runs for the dock, but the ship has already left!
The Avengers pursue, and Creel comes fist to fist with Vision!
Vision lets Creel absorb his powers, specifically his etherealness, and Creel falls through the dock before he can become human again!
Seeing the departing ship, he starts swimming towards it, but he can't catch up, and the Avengers are close behind him.
In resignation, Absorbing Man turns himself into water and lets the tides disperse him!

Script by David Michelinie. Pencils by John Byrne. Inks by Klaus Janson.

    Binary's Speed: 169.3 Quadrillion MPH

The Leader explains to Hulk that the location he wants to sent him to is so far that even at the speed of light it would take more than a life time to arrive.
He resorts to using a device to send Hulk at the speed of thought.
Using 80 years for the average human life expectancy, there is 8,740 hours in a year and 700,800 hours in 80 years.
The amount of time Hulk took to land was about 10 seconds based on the Narrator's dialogue.
    (671e+6 * 700,800) * (3600/10) = 1.693e+17 or 169,300,000,000,000,000

Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #2 Jun 1984
    "Prisoners of War!"
On the surface of Battleworld, a planet created by the Beyonder in the previous issue the heroes gathered by the Beyonder
are attacked by the villains the god-like being brought there as well. The villains, armed with weapons found in a fortress on Battleworld,
managed to get the element of surprise and began winning the battle against the heroes.
Elsewhere Doctor Doom flies across the landscape recalling the events that brought them here.
He manages to find Galactus, who attempted to attack the Beyonder earlie,r only to be cast down to the surface of Battleworld.
Doom attempts to get Galactus' attention, but the world devourer merely rises from the ground and walks off,
ignoring the villain as though he were nothing more than a gnat. With his attempt to ally himself with Galactus a complete failure,
Doom decides to follow through on his alternate plan. Returning to the massive fortress that the villains had commandeered for themselves
before leaving to fight the heroes, Doom blasts past the security defenses and gains access inside where the inert body of Ultron is being stored.

Back at the battle, the heroes manage to regain the upper hand and send the villains in retreat.
However they manage to capture the Enchantress, Kang, Bulldozer, Piledriver and Thunderball, as prisoners.
The heroes then go seeking shelter and find an abandoned fortress for themselves where they can detain their prisoners in stasis.
As they are exploring the facility, Colossus notices that Lockheed went missing in battle and thinks about how his girlfriend,
Kitty Pride would be upset if they do not return home with the little dragon. After the villains are contained,
the heroes begin looking around and are surprised to find the fortress meets their every need but is completely abandoned.
Captain America soon calls a meeting together and begins formulating a plan to capture their foes.

He sends Thor, the Human Torch and Iron Man out on patrol while the rest of the group finds lodging and food.
Elsewhere on Battleworld, at yet another fortress, the mutant terrorist known as Magneto has found his own base of operations.
Watching over the alien landscape before him, Magneto wonders if anyone else feels
the same sense of destiny that he does regarding the events which are about to unfold.

Meanwhile, the uncaptured villains return to their hideout to find Doom waiting there for them.
Still thinking him a traitor for previously abandoning them instead of fighting the heroes,
they are about to attack when they are suddenly blasted aside by Ultron, who has been reactivated and reprogrammed to be loyal to Doctor Doom. Outgunned, the remaining villains have no choice but to follow Doom and allow him to be their leader.
Doctor Doom then begins sucking up to the Molecule Man, easily one of the most powerful people out of them all.
When Doctor Octopus turns Doom's attention to Galactus, they pull the world devourer up
on a monitor screen revealing him to be standing at the top of a peak glowing with energy.
Doom assures Octopus that plans are in motion so that they will triumph and orders Octavius to rest.
Octopus complies but suspects that Doom will eventually betray them.
At that moment, Magneto secretly infiltrates the heroes' base while his opponents are trying to relax.
She-Hulk and the Wasp discuss all the things left behind on Earth,
while Cyclops and Mister Fantastic lament about being separated from their wives,
while Spider-Man and the Torch spend time together.
Suddenly, Spider-Man's Spider-Sense goes off, warning him that Magneto is in the power plant of their headquarters.
While he web-slings off to confront the threat, the Torch fires off a Fantasti-Flare to summon the rest of the heroes.

When the other heroes arrive, Spider-Man has been subdued and all the heroes combined are less than a match for Magneto.
As the Master of Magnetism dumps machinery on them and escapes, the Wasp tries to chase after him.
Magneto responds by wrapping her up in metal and taking her prisoner.

Getting free, the Thing tries to chase after their foe but suddenly changes back into human form, much to everyone's surprise.

Before they can go after Magneto, Captain America calls the rest of the heroes over to the monitor room where he
and the Hulk have pulled up an image of Galactus. Cap warns the others that they have bigger concerns to deal with right now.
