I dunno if they’re important among the Jason Todd fans, but Detective Comics 571 shows Batman picturing his worst fear to defeat a new drug created by the Scarecrow. His fear was Jason Todd’s death. Also, in 573 & 574 there’s a two part story where Jason gets shot by the Mad Hatter and Leslie Thompkins has to save him while The Batman waits and tells her about some of his years preparing himself in college to become the masked hero. The cover of 574 shows Batman carrying the body of Jason Todd. These three issues may be seen as premonitory to Jason’s death or interesting coincidences. The issues are written by Mike W. Barr, drawn by Alan Davis, inked by Paul Neary and colored by Adrienne Roy
"The Batman is Gotham City. I will watch him. Study him. And when I know him and why he does not kill, I will know this city. And then Gotham will be MINE!"-BANE

"We're monsters, buddy. Plain and simple. I don't dress it up with fancy names like mutant or post-human; men were born crueler than Apes and we were born crueler than men. It's just the natural order of things"-ULTIMATE SABRETOOTH

Barr`s/Davis entire (brief) Detective Comics run should always be a must have in any Jason Todd list.

Another list of coincidences is that in Jason`s first out as Robin (Pre Crisis, Don Newton and writer..gottacheck) ends with the cliffhanger of him being shot or something similar. Getting directly compared to Dick Grayson does that from writers who grew up as fans but it wasn`t a novelty as some would think. Dick Grayson over the years also had some cliffhanger scenes (like the famout Neal Adams cover) where he suffers the same sort of fates (including in the post crisis origin story for Jason where the cliffhanger was if "Robin would die", together with a picture of Dick after he was shot by the Joker).

So...Robin getting shot was basically just another Tuesday for Batman.
