    Default MLB 2017 Thread

Since pitchers and catchers is about a month away, I figured it was time to launch a 2017 baseball thread, and what better way to start than with news of this year's entrants to Cooperstown:

    Jeff Bagwell
    Tim Raines
    Ivan Rodriguez

Trevor Hoffman came close at 74 percent, perhaps he breaks through next year, ditto for Vlad Guerrero who finished at just under 72 percent. Meanwhile, juicers Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens are gaining support as they finished at 53 and 51 percent respectively. I found that mildly surprising. However, that wasn't the case with Sammy Sosa with just under 9 percent. Lastly, I didn't see Mark McGwire on the list. Curious. Here's the full list:

    Jeff Bagwell, 381 votes, 86.2%
    Tim Raines, 380 votes, 86.0%
    Ivan Rodriguez, 336 votes, 76.0%

    Trevor Hoffman, 327 votes, 74.0%
    Vladimir Guerrero, 317 votes, 71.7%
    Edgar Martinez, 259 votes, 58.6%
    Roger Clemens, 239 votes, 54.1%
    Barry Bonds, 238 votes, 53.8%
    Mike Mussina, 229 votes, 51.8%
    Curt Schilling, 199 votes, 45.0%
    Lee Smith, 151 votes, 34.2%
    Manny Ramirez, 105 votes, 23.8%
    Larry Walker, 97 votes, 21.9%
    Fred McGriff, 96 votes, 21.7%
    Jeff Kent, 74 votes, 16.7%
    Gary Sheffield, 59 votes, 13.3%
    Billy Wagner, 45 votes, 10.2%
    Sammy Sosa, 38 votes, 8.6%
    --
    Jorge Posada, 17 votes, 3.8%
    Magglio Ordonez, 3 votes, 0.7%
    Edgar Renteria, 2 votes, 0.5%
    Jason Varitek, 2 votes, 0.5%
    Tim Wakefield, 1 vote,0.2%
    Casey Blake, 0 votes, 0.0%
    Pat Burrell, 0 votes, 0.0%
    Orlando Cabrera, 0 votes, 0.0%

Same here. Not many original Montreal Expos in the Hall.

Well Spring Training is in full swing, the first handful of exhibition games are in the books and teams are making their final moves and dealing with injuries cropping up.

It's good time to be a baseball fan except the commisoner's office trying to change the game way too close to the start of the season. If you want to make changes talk about them now for 2018, not 2017. I don't really like any of the new speed up rules they are trying to implement. The game is what it is and that is the beauty of it.

bump because a second thread on the same subject was started.

Sighing relief that it looks like David Price's injury is not season ending. Hopefully he recovers with rest.

Tim Tebow is set to make his MLB spring training debut tomorrow for the Mets in a game against the Red Sox. If lineup projections hod, his first AB will be facing last year's AL Cy Young award winner Rick Porcello. Tebow has somehow made a career at failing at everything since college (NFL, MLB, co-hosting an ABC reality show, etc.), his resilience is amazing if not his ability to succeed at what he does.

Archer is looking good. I was hoping the Cubs would trade for him last year. He had a down year, but he has such great stuff and is a workhorse. And he's just entering his prime.

Madison Bumgarner hit 2 HR's today against the D-Backs, setting a record for most HR's hit by a pitcher on opening day. Giants are winning 5-4 in the ninth

Turns out it was all for naught as Mark Melanson, brought in by the Giants to solidify their closer situation (Frisco blew nine saves last season), **** the bed in his debut, coughing up that lead and losing 6-5.

Yeah, I watched the ninth and it was funny to see Melancon blow the lead. LOL
