The show's shift towards the big miniseries has been a creative boon. They're essentially epic movies split into little chunks, and they're satisfyingly capping these longrunning plots.

Sadly, I think this kind of serialization in cartoons will be rarer on broadcast television. I think the cartoons that Cartoon Network tends to rerun heavily are the ones that kids can just watch randomly, while Steven Universe and Adventure Time fans (many of which are adults) are more likely to watch streaming on Hulu or bought on iTunes or amazon video. I feel the next cartoons with crossover audiences will tend to be online, and is already occurring with Voltron and Trollhunters.
