Default Is Hal basically a composite Lantern?

Gung ho cowboy attitude of Gardner
By the Books military aspect of Stewart
His "torchbearing" from sinestro and creativity similar to Rayner
    Reputation proceeding him like Baz
In Emerald Twilight, letting fear cripple him like Cruz

I think you got the cause effect backwards, Hal is the template. Each GL after him was designed to take characteristics that made him a GL and present it in a different way.

The Lensman series is a serial science fiction space opera by American author Edward Elmer "Doc" Smith. It was a runner-up for the 1966 Hugo award for Best All-Time Series. It is very much one of the templates for big stories in science fiction and it probably had a very direct effect on John Broome when he laid out the foundations of the Green Lantern world (note the two adversaries in the Lensmen series are the planets Arisia and Eddore; later writers paid tribute to the borrowing by using those names for characters).
