Being unique and oh so corny
Mounting does not amount to much
The unicorn is unic-horny.

You know there are people who'd pay good money to be slapped in the face with a cold dead penis.
Just sayin.

I started out at Alvaro's Midtown Message Boards (now comicboards.com) on Iron Man (I had been a regular poster at Alvaro's and CBR for a little less than a year). Then I took on Avengers as well. And then Black Panther. There was a "no more than three boards" mod rule, so I then gave Iron Man to my Avengers co-mod and took on Power Company. In the middle of all this, I tried to create an independent board of my own for Gorilla Comics, which started off OK, and then failed miserably when they opened their own. Then there were a lot of people wanting a Starman board that neither Alvaro's nor CBR would do, so I created an independent board called The Starman Annex Message Board. Then I added the Avengers board here at CBR and after a while Jonah offered to host the Annex as Starman/JSA. It was just as the book was ending, and everybody talked about JSA on the JLA board, so Starman got cancelled fairly quickly.Mormel gets history:
What forum did you moderate? The pot forum? j/k please don't hurt me.
I figured then that I'd just take it indy again, and a thought occurred to me. There were many comic boards people asked for, that neither of those places wanted to host because they'd be low traffic. So I created boards for Starman, Martian Manhunter, Static, and two more that I'm having trouble pulling up out of my memory. I put them all under the heading of the Island of Misfit Comic Message Boards. Other people liked the concept and would suggest boards to me. I told them I'd do it if they would be the mods. It took off for a while, a few boards failed but I added way more and eventually I ended up with over 30 boards (including the creator/publisher approved "official" boards for Cavewoman and Fem Force) and a bunch of people "working" for me. Gail Simone, Bud Root, Frank Cho and Dwayne McDuffie all dropped a few posts at the Island at one time or another. I think Kurt Busiek may have dropped by, but I can't remember because I originally offered him a Power Company board there, and he was more into me asking for one at Alvaro's (a bigger venue) so I get a little confused as to my interactions with him around that time. Several CBR regulars here worked for me as mods for a while on boards at the Island, as well.
In the meantime, I was still the Avengers mod here, but Jonah was changing the format and I got it in my craw that I didn't want to mod boards like that (this, more or less) and I resigned from CBR entirely (not really in a huff, just "sorry, I'm not into it".). It was silly, because I realize now that I wasn't quitting because of the format, I was subconsciously getting burned out, with my internet experience becoming less fun and more like a job. I stuck around at Alvaro's and the Island for a year longer (I think) before realizing that was what was happening. So I gave the Island to my "Assistant Head Mod" (and he later passed it off to others, and the name was changed later to Second-String Sanctuary) quit Alvaro's entirely and took a break from the internet completely for a little while.
But I missed the interaction with my old pals, so I eventually wandered back here and acted like I hadn't ever been gone.
This all took placed from approximately late '97 to '02. I'll never mod again. Good lord, is it a lot of thankless work, and it just took too much out of me once I let things snowball like they did. It's more fun to be a guy the mods have to keep an eye on.
And now you're sorry you asked, right?

5 years is a pretty good run, considering the time and effort you have to put into it, 'Dox. And expect Kurt B. to check in eventually to confirm or deny your Island Of Misfit Comics interactions.
