My old man called them that (usually with derision). I like it for taking the air out of some pompous people. In much the same way that I try to refer to "action figures" as "dollies". Or when I'm tweaking my fellow Champions Online players "virtual online doll collection".bert notes:

I have a weird sort of a "Wikipedia link" creative process. Look this up, see if it sends me in another direction, follow to a detailed thing which leads me to another detailed thing, then a light bulb comes on and I go a completely different direction...it's about as non-linear as a left-brain dominant anal retentive can get.
