I think this thread has been very congenial and welcoming. More so than I expected, really. Anyone can step in and join the conversation without much effort at all.

Most sequels don't live up to the originals. But Star trek II wrath of Khan. Empire Strikes Back. Godfather II. MAd Max. Silence of the Lambs. Toy Story 2. Lord of the rings : Two towers. Spider-man 2. Terminator 2. Dark Knight. Toy Story 2. say otherwise.

Captain America 2, Iron Man 2 & 3 (shush you! I liked them!), Thor 2 -- all as good as or better than the first movie.

My only quibble is that the Two Towers isn't a sequel. It's all one story. Even when JRR wrote it. It was the publisher's idea to break it up into three.
