What does that have to do with this thread? It was 1940, but yes, Timely is Marvel.

Rampage is the only answer that makes sense here.

    Doomsday, Damage, Solomon Grundy.

The first two more than the last. Particularly Damage, who while immensely powerful and destructive, shares the most traits with Banner/Hulk.

Especially given that Damage/Ethan are both the same, yet different. Same person, yet at the same time they're not. Two sides of the same coin, so to speak. Just like Banner/Hulk.

Team RAMPAGE for the win. She even eventually retains intelligence in her transformed state.

Then, of course, we still have Blockbuster, whom Phil Bourassa mentioned as having to be changed somewhat for the Young Justice cartoon, because they felt the original comics version was too similar to Hulk.

I was thinking of Etrigan too. Morrison wanted him as a Hulk analog for his seven soldiers project but ended using Frankenstein, who is also another kind of Hulk.

The Futures End version of rampage was more Hulk like:

    The Multiversity 1.
    Then The Multiversity 2.

And, if you like you can read the rest of the series in-between.

If the character does not have heroic tendency then they aren't really equivalents of the Hulk. Doomsday and Grundy are only one aspect. The recently made character Damage has the strength monster aspect ,dual nature aspect and character moral leaning is towards doing good. The book probably isn't going to be around for much longer but Damage is clear Hulk like character much like Sideways is Spiderman and the Terrifics are the fantastic four with a dc spin.

This is pretty much DC's equivalent to She-Hulk at least.

IMO, the view of Solomon Grundy as a Hulk analog is a result of Timm's JL/JLU series, and one of its major missteps. The Hulk is meant to be misunderstood creature of passions, and a Cold War science cautionary tale. Grundy, however, is a nightmarish amplification of the worst things in the human soul, spat out of a swamp as though death itself didn't want it. It has none of the redeeming features of The Hulk, nor was intended to be depicted as such a muscular figure.

While always depicted as large, he wasn't usually bulky...

...but lean, desiccated. It makes me wonder if the Karloff Frankenstein's monster was the template. I'm not sure when artists started pumping him up.

My favorite interpretation of Solomon Grundy is from Ross' Justice. I really think he captured the idea of the undead monster as a repulsive, walking horror...
