Default Can anyone recommend good horror comics?

Hi, I was hoping somebody could recommend some good horror comics. My friend doesn't read comics that often but horror is the only genre he likes. I read mainly DC comics. I have a handful of independents on my pull list. Revival being the most hardcore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I heard Providence was pretty good. It's based on the Cthulhu mythos. Then of course, there's Hellboy by Mike Mignola, also with strong Lovecraft influences. Plenty o' creepy comics about vampires too like 30 Days of Night and American Vampire, the latter by Scott Snyder.

It occurs to me that some of these recommendations should be accompanied with a NOT FOR CHILDREN warning.
Crossed and Nameless being prime examples.

"Horror" is all it is, or "Horror" is an aspect of the story being told?

"Horror" is a rather broad category. An on-going series he might find interesting is Clean Room. There's also Wytches, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and of course collected reprints of the old EC titles.

Not to worry. It's for a 40 something year old.

Horror as an aspect of the story would suffice. He enjoyed Revival, tame as that is. Though I'm sure he wouldn't turn his nose up at out and out horrors either.

Thanks everyone one for the replies. I'm going to have to Google some of these and see if I can get a little out of my comfort zone

Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love just wrapped up at DC and it was quite good. Three issue mini series.

Locke And Key by Joe Hill, from IDW.

Fatale, by Ed Brubaker, from Image.

And anything that Rob Liefeld has had a hand in.
