Can we just, like, end the entire Mary Sue thing? Just kill the whole concept with fire? Seriously, can we, as consumers of fiction, please all agree to stop saying characters are Mary Sues? Setting aside the fact that the term has drifted immensely from its original usage, it's just a really stupid, condescending idea. Like, the original Mary Sue was a joke, parodying certain types of fanfic characters. But fanfic is written mostly by young people - especially young women - who are just learning how to write. And mocking them is a really goddamn shitty thing to do. And when it comes to mainstream fiction, "Mary Sue" really just means "female character I don't like," rendering it especially meaningless.
Moon Girl's not a Mary Sue, and Mary Sue is a term that needs to die.
