Default All Star Superman's ending confuses me (Spoilers)

In the movie, is Superman dead? The ending is kinda ambiguous.

Also, anyone notice a little plot hole where Superman says he can communicate with his descendants from the future? If he's dying, how does he have descendants?

He pretty much goes into the sun for a Million years then comes out Gold as seen in DC 1,000,000. Morrison keeps all his stories together without actually keeping them together.

He's not dead, he goes in the sun and becomes a golden, god-like figure. His descendants could either be the children of other Kryptonians like Supergirl, or the result of the DNA code that he gives to the guy in the rainbow coat.

What I want to know is, does his time in the sun result in the entire planet getting super powers around year 1,000,000?

The Golden Superman that meets young clark in Smallville is actually Clark Kent after hundreds and thousands of years fixing the sun from Solaris's poisoning.

Ambiguous yes, plot hole no. The movie varies from the comic, just FYI. I think it's not wrong to assume that Superman fixes the sun and returns, but the movie seemed to go in the direction that Lois has his son, or at least provides the necessary ovum to bring life to a new Superman, thanks to Lex Luthor's genius. Lex's genius also managed to find a way to fit Superman's entire genetic code into a handful of notebooks.

To clarify, the DC One Million event was set ahead in months, not years.

Huh? One Million was thousands upon thousands of years in the future. Or do you mean one million months rather than years, which is accurate (hence picking as otherwise odd a date as A.D. 85,271)?

I thought it meant that the year 1,000,000 was actually taking place in the 900,000 century. 1,000,000 months would put us in the year, 83,333. I do seem to remember the year 80,000 mentioned somewhere though so maybe it was months.

My bad, I thought we were talking about the comic and not the movie.

Morrison wanted it 1M months from 1938, hence the aforementioned year 85271.

Thats so cool, it's comic book time rather than years.

Yes, my apologies for not specifying. With some continuity aside, Morrison's Action run, his JLA run, Final Crisis and All-Star Superman tell his epic interpretation of the character. Same goes for his Batman.

Yeah, the basic idea was "this might by what DC looks like if its comics made it to issue #1,000,000".
