Will definitely be pulling this!
In the almost 40 years of her creation she's had 2 ongoings and a mini series, one of which lasted 50 issues, the other which lasted 7, and was only cancelled because the artist was burnt out from doing both the regular series as well as the motion comic. Moon Knight's on his 5th, 6th (?) series. This doesn't even compare to those other series.
Let us take a peak into the future...
Good Marvel characters- Bring Them Back!!!
I know neither of,those, pictures are Spider-Woman. But this is.
Good Marvel characters- Bring Them Back!!!
lolololololol.
Just to further explain my position, I am in no way a Land fan. His run on Uncanny was...abysmal until Gillen came on, and it just seemed to get better. Yeah, his females were still rather toothy, and still had some porn traces, but he actually seemed to improve with Gillen's scripts. Factor in his pretty decent showing on Mighty under Ewing, I'd say he's on his way to being at least readable again (which I haven't seen since his run on Birds of Prey or Sojourn)
I'll probably check out the first few issues. I was skeptical when Mighty Avengers was announced but it's become one of my favorite team comics (despite the fact that some fans have caught Greg recycling there).
Spider-Woman's last book was in 2009, Moon Knight's was 2011. Moon Knight's newest book has launched already, and doesn't seem to be doing too bad. Not seeing the relevance with the whole too soon = won't sell rhetoric you have here. The book very well could bomb, but I don't see what it would have to do with time.
Anyway, I'm pumped Spider-Woman is getting another shot a series. I really feel that Marvel fumbled with Jess's last series. It launched way too late (should've been out right on the heels of the Secret Invasion), plus the motion comic was out for ages before the book launched. I knew a lot of people who downloaded the motion comic when it came out but as a result didn't buy the book when it finally made it to stands. I would've loved KSD on this book as I really enjoyed her Jess in Avengers Assemble. Land isn't even a big issue for me, his work won't stop me from reading and he must launch titles well cause Marvel has used him a few times to titles off the ground. I would have preferred Valerio move from Mighty Avengers to this full time though, but I'll get this regardless.
Right as I posted I said the same thing about MK before he launched and it is working out fine so maybe this will too. I am not saying it won't sell only that the recent track record was meh. I would prefer something a little more outside the box than just trying something new than someone who got a shot not even a decade ago. It is hardly the end of the world no matter how it plays out.
I am actually looking forward to it. The only thing I've read of Hopeless' was Cable & X-Force which was pretty good I thought. I hope he goes for the more out there aspects of her villains.
Land, he can do good work when he stays clear of the tracing box. There are other artists that I think would be more suited, but Land does have his fans so who knows...maybe it will be good.
I will pick this up if the hook for this book is interesting. Spider-Woman has been meh since she joined the Avengers IMO, She seems more useful with the Avengers whenever she appears in Spider-Man's book.
I don't mind Land's art its not great but It won't stop me from getting a book that seems interesting.
We need better comics
