Some of these roster are just way too big... teams typically aren't bigger than 6 to 7. And if they are, one or two characters aren't active, they are support based and offer technological, medical or even satirical (comedic) support, but hardly combatants. They are in the background and are only seen once every couple issues for a few panels. I think it's something the X-Men have missed for a while. In the past they've had the main storyline with the action but typically had subplots in background going on between characters not getting a lot of panel time. The stories would be ongoing for months while the main is charging along, but it all would culminate in the end. The soap opera aspect, the books USED to have. Creators cry about there being too many characters, but it really isnt a big deal to have them in back performing off panel duties. For instance, Forge was such a character during EXM. But I thought an auxiliary team of X-Men left back full-time to defend the Mansion from the demons of Limbo would have made oodles of sense. They wouldn't need panel time and heck, it might have made a good satelite book. It would have been a crazy mix of action, sci-fi and perhaps horror. My selection for this missed opportunity;

It could have had a rotating cast as well, occasionally throwing in characters like Jubilee, Chamber, Husk, Pixie/Nightmare, Surge or Rockslide to replace the injured or just bolster the lines. The premise could have played out similarly to way AoX did, but instead of daily attacks from human forces, it'd be demonic forces. Could have developed it's own rogues gallery of recurring demons with names to mix into the fodder of nameless ones (I think they did this once or twice..? name a demon in limbo in EXM). The book could have been like X-Men dark, even pushed a bit into Doctor Strange's mystical world, perhaps fostered a crossover with him... but I don't work for Marvel.

I've been set on Hope a the 6th member for the longest, but honestly, I would be okay with either X-23 or Monet instead at this point. The Hope addition made much more sense when I first though of these line ups 5 years ago.

Now if I had to have just ONE team? It would have to have 10 members, and yeah I'm totally a classics person, Blue Gold era all the way, well, those teams and Nightcrawler/Shadowcat which weren't part of those teams but are too important not to consider core X_Men!!!
