For me the appeal of the book was Orlando's take on the Midnighter. I always loved the fact that the Midnighter was a tough guy who had no need to play the big man. I also liked the fact that for the most part Midnighter has always been a man who accepts himself warts and all. He doesn't look to others for approval Sure he had demons but there was no neurotic hand wringing. I always admire people who are at peace with themselves. One thing I have to give props to was how Appollo was treated. He's a good man but not for the sake of being good. He just refuses to add to the a/hole population on the planet. I also liked the fact that when it came to Midnighters' way of dealing out justice, he didn't feel a need to wag his fingers like some sanctimonious school teacher. Glad to see that Orlando has been given bigger books. The industry needs better writers.
