Morrison came close, but sometimes veered into "I'm being weird for the sake of being weird" zone. Giffen's might have been the best I've read, actually. Even Byrne's run had it's appeal. Only run I didn't care much for was Pollack's, but that's taste for ya.

Who to do a reboot? China Meville might do a good job; he's got some Morrison esque touches. I think Jeff Parker might be a nice match, too.
Jeff Parker and Mike Allred (or Chris Bachalo) would be perfect for a new Doom Patrol.

I find it ironic that the New Doom Patrol died before the originals this time.

Yeah, I think that was done with a grin by Johns. Although I did like Karma in this take, I grew up with the originals so I prefer to see Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl, and Niles as the core group.

I've only read Morrison's run and Giffen's. Which should check out next?

Arcudi's series. It came after Morrison but before Giffen and had Robotman leading a team of 4 new kids (Fever, Kid Slick, Fast Forward, and Freak).

It is funny that it seem like with Doom Patrol you have one run that is loved then the next that is kinda "meh" or flat out hated. Up and down.

    Drake - awesome
    Kupperburg - meh
    Morrison - awesome
    Pollack - not liked
    Arcudi - great
    Byrne - hated
    Giffen - great

    o.O
Let's hope the pattern doesn't continue.
Or maybe the creative team will be replaced in the 2nd issue to get us to the next "great" period faster. ;-)

I really wish I liked Pollack's run more than I do (I'd give it a solid C-). She was handed a golden goose and managed to sink it, I think, because she tried too hard to trump Morrison in the "weird" department. It started strong enough, but by the end was even more incomprehensible than modern day Morrison at his worst. Ted McKeever's art didn't help the situation; had Richard Case stuck around it might have upped my overall grade to a C+.

Who should be on the rebooted team? For me, Cliff, Rita, Larry, maybe Crazy Jane and that Vortex dude from the Byrne run.

Well the Justice League solits pretty much confirm Cliff, Larry, and Rita. Which makes me incredibly happy that the original crew will be back. Crazy Jane would be amazing as well!
We never saw the final fates of Celsius and Tempest so there's a chance they survived the Crime Syndicate's attack.

I consider the morrison/pollack runs as a tag team, and i love both of them (my favourites).

I believe China Mieville could write a Doom Patrol with this feel.

I like Celsius. More the concept since I haven't read anything starring the character. I would love to see a writer take the character and modernize her.

BTW, I feel Bumblebee was a perfect addition to the team.

    My opinion of the runs:
    Drake - The Best!
Kupperburg - Started out good but didn't care for the Larsen art later.
Morrison - Wasn't for me. Didn't care for it.
Pollack - Didn't care for it.
Arcudi - Didn't care for it.
    Byrne - Liked it.
Giffen - Didn't care for it.

    We should tally these up.

    Mine:

Drake - The Doom Patrol standard. Nothing better. *****
Kupperburg - I agree. Loved it at launch. Larsen's art killed it for me, too. And I like Savage Dragon. **** then *
    Morrison - Great. ****
    Pollack - Okay. **
    Arcudi - Didn't like it. *
    Byrne - Liked it. ***
    Giffen - Liked it. ***

Celsius was fun. Along with Kimiyo 'Doctor Light 2,' she had a brusque no-nonsense sort of air, and acted more like a professional veteran than some more gee-whiz / laid-back *actual* veteran heroes. Along with her teammates Tempest and Negative Woman, they had a neat vibe, but I think they were all killed in various ways. (And a new fire/ice generating woman from India, named Maya, was later introduced as a League member, to kind of fill the niche and, probably unintentionally, ensure that Celsius would never come back...)

I'm not sure, but she might have been one of the first Indian superheroes...

Best to worst runs, taking in mind I've yet to read any Drake issues.

    1) Giffen
    2) Morrison
    3) Byrne
    4) Kupperberg
    5) Arcudi
    6) Pollack
