Default "Spidey" Series: Good or Bad

I understand the short-lived Spidey comic series can be read in trade form now. I never read it, so I was curious if others thought it was worth the time or not, since I'm considering giving it a go.

I only read it up to issue #6 and then dropped it, mainly because it felt like it was aimed at a younger audience. It was partly down to the artist changing too because for the first 4 or 5 issues, the art was brilliant.

It was essentially the '70's "Spidey Super Stories" resurrected; aimed at a very young (under 12) audience.

^Same logo too. Wasn't a bad book, though it is AU (knowing Gwen at high school doesn't match 616, where they met in college). 10 of the 12 issues should be on Marvel Unlimited by now.

Nick Bradshaw's art made it a worthwhile buy for me as long as he lasted. Without that, it wasn't something I cared to keep up with. Mind you, I'm not the audience for this book as it was clearly aimed at young kids so I wouldn't call it "bad", just not for me. But that Bradshaw art was so gorgeous.

I personally thought it was a fun read. My two personal highlights were the issue where he teams up with Steve Rogers and the other issue where he teamed up with T'Challa, especially since T'Challa kept trying to make these speeches and he'd swing off I personally recommend giving it a try.

Really? Haha, thats pretty funny. T'Challa can be long-winded when he is pontificating.

So, would the series be comparable to the Marvel Adventures stuff they did with Spider-Man?

Yes. It's basically an all-ages, alternate continuity, take on Spider-Man much in the same vein as Marvel Adventures .

While the context around the plot line was clearly written for younger audiences, this book was one of the few "Peter Parkers" I read in the last 6 or so years that FELT like Spider-Man. The character's witty personal and fun loving attitude brought be back to the "friendly neighborhood spider-man". I actually laughed out loud, and I'm in my late 20's. So all in all, I suggest it.

Okay that's good to hear; I did like Marvel Adventures overall.
