Why are Superman movies so lacking?

You speak of the film as though it were written/directed by Ed Wood.

I do? I don't think so. It was just that it had some glaring plotholes and dire dialog at points.
Like I said, I dug the film..visually, it was very good...the Krypton scenes I liked especially, and the performances from Shannon, Costner and Crowe were pretty good, despite the shitty script.
Jor-el being a badass Doc Savage type was cool and reminded me of the Animated Series origin.
Cavill (and Adams), I think, didn't have much to work with....hopefully that will change with Batman/Superman: Electric Boogaloo.

I'm watching the half finished documentary on the Tim Burton Superman and the idea's and the pictures and stuff from it look great i'm still not sure Nicholas Cage could have pulled it off tho.
