Simple:

Jean is a more powerful telepath than Emma Frost. She is the premiere telepath in the Marvel universe.

Maybe 616 adult Jean is more powerful, but not teen/05 Jean who hasn't had time to hone her powers.

Also, let's be real, Emma didn't want to actually get rid of it.

Doesn't make sense. Given the fact that Emma wanted Laura gone because and tried to get rid of her when she first joined the team.

"No More mutants" had just happened and deep down Emma is riddled with guilt from the death of the Hellions. The last thing she would want was for mutants to be harmed or dead. Further as time went on, Emma began to show respect for the younger woman and even drove out Kimura when she tried to assassinate Laura . If she could have rooted out the trigger scent of out Laura she would have.

The other answers to this question are just rationalizing something that doesn't really make sense. The true answer is simple: Taylor wanted it gone, and he wanted it gone quickly and easily.

Yeah well. It's just lazy and rubbish writing. I honestly don't think that Taylor puts much thought into what he writes. ANW is basically fan fiction. Hopefully someone will fix this travesty one day.

Its a nice interview. He clearly has a great passion for Laura and I like the direction he is pointing her in. Hope he stays on the book for some time yet!
