Since there is now a whole forum, should there be separate threads for each book released? or keep the individual threads going on a per publisher basis?
Sound off below.
Separate thread for each book release ie Uncanny Xmen Omnibus thread
Separate thread for each book size ie Omnibus book Discussion
Separate thread for each publisher ie Marvel thread
A Mix and match of Options 1-3

Mix of everything.
Some formats could also support entire threads. Epics, omnibuses, Absolute, Archives/Masterworks and Showcases/Essentials could do so I think.
I also think threads for the big franchises would be good. Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, etc. If a particular book gets a lot of heat then discussion could move to its own thread.
I don't really see a need for Marvel and DC to have their own threads since they release so much material (and isn't getting away from the big generals the reason we wanted a board in the first place?) but smaller publishers like Fantagraphics and Dark Horse could definitely have them IMO.
I think we also have to consider the fact that we share this board with another community, although how much of that community returns here remains to be seen.
Oh, and I think wishlist, shelf porn and complaint threads are a must.
A mix would be good. I think worrying too much about what goers where and a rigid structure wouldn't really help foster conversation. Like if a book is really popular it might organically get its own thread for content discussion, but might still be talked about as a new release in the general omnibus thread or whatever.
I guess my vote would be for letting conversations grow organically.
To start and to sort of echo CrazyOldHermit, I could definitely see these topics sustaining their own threads within this new forum:
Marvel Omnibus and Oversized Hardcovers (First posts should contain FAQs)
Marvel Masterworks and Essentials (First posts should contain FAQs)
Marvel Epic/Complete/Ultimate Editions (First posts should contain FAQs)
Marvel Standard Hardcovers and Trade Paperbacks
DC Absolute, Omnibus and Deluxe Hardcovers (First posts should contain FAQs)
DC Archives and Showcases (First posts should contain FAQs)
DC Standard Hardcovers and Trade Paperbacks
Independent/Classic Omnibus, Library, Deluxe Special Edition and Oversized Hardcovers
Independent/Classic Standard Hardcovers and Trade Paperbacks
Collected Edition Complaints - All Complaining, All The Time
Shelfies (Collection Pictures - Since maybe Shelf "Porn" wouldn't fly under new CBR rules)
Custom Binding (First posts should contain FAQs)
Online Retailers
I think any other threads would emerge organically as the need arises for them such as "Every Batman Collected Edition" or "Sandman Absolute vs. Omnibus vs. Annotated." But these threads might be sustainable long term, which is fine as not every thread is supposed to be a never ending discussion.
Wait you actually want 13 different threads clogging up the page? I'd much rather just go by company. They would drown all the other topics. That list is more topics than this sub forum currently has.
It's a brand new subform on a message board that was rebooted harder than a Superboy punch. I don't know if you participated in the old Marvel Omnibus Threads but there are clearly a large number people who don't want to discuss Epics with Omnibuses, etc. If anything I think the "standard HC and TPB" threads could be left out since those probably got the least amount of discussion in the mega threads.
The Essentials/Masterworks Showcase/Archives threads would probably find a nice audience with the "Classics" portion of this forum too.
3 Marvel, 2 DC and 1 Independent/Classics topics for very specific lines really isn't too much. And surely there will be ebb and flow to the rate of discussion, but probably fairly consistent discussion to warrant having such threads. If we're just going to have Marvel and DC catchall threads, what is the point of having this new forum? Those could have been done in the Marvel and DC forums. This gives us a chance to unclutter the megathread conversations.
People generally have multiple publishers and multiple book sizes on their shelves, so a separate thread for people to clog up with their pictures seems like a good option. Plus it allows anyone to get in on the picture action without having to scan the separate threads if all they want is pics.
A Complaint thread might be redundant since you can complain about the books in the respective line thread. Custom Binding is worthy of its own topic. Online retailers would be a helpful thread to help people get the best discounts. It seems like it would also be helpful for international board members who have trouble finding collected editions locally.
Ok fair enough but when your in say the Epic forum and someone mentions how nice it is that the new epic follows up omnibus whatever and it sparks a discussion about said omnibus for a page or so I look forward to people complaining you can't talk about omni in an epic thread. I don't think everyone would just instantly bounce back and forth to the "correct" forum to finish their thoughts. Or if your talking roger stern avengers. All covered now in several different formats so which sub topic does that go in? I'm all for majority rules, but are people gonna flip if the conversation drifts now and then. I've no doubt some will, but ok. I still think ones enough but if it really is that big a deal might as well just make a thread for whatever book you want to talk about and move on like people do for individual issues like Avengers 28 review.
yeah, i figured people wouldn't go for that. just keeps everything compact instead of catching up and reading 4 or more threads, and #2 helps for immediate reference. I am definitely not keen on having 3 or more threads for each publisher...
in the end, majority wins, so whatever happens, happens.
I propose we have a thread dedicated to shelf porn, it would be glorious!
There's going to be some overlap in possible places to discuss things. I think people can be reasonable and flexible about that. But there were serious tangents about the Epic line in the old Omnibus thread that had nothing to do with Omnibus comparisons. I think it would be good to spread out now that we have the forum space to do so.
