back in the 80s i seriously doubted other kids sanity when they came up with he-man toys.
you do realize, that they just recycled that torso from another action figure?
(and that was even before i learned that they reused animals from their doomed lines. eagle/battlecat)
how can you be so blind?
well i was never into sterioid-schwarzenegger inspired schwachsinn.
the masters of the universe universe has a certain high fantasy appeal. but in my humble opinion it is dimished by the oversexualized depiction of the characters.
"masters" might be the most pornographic toyline ever published. (greg land would be the perfect artist for a modern incarnation of MotU)
if you take it for what it is, a cheesy scifantasy line, ok.

but putting anymore context beyond that into it... well iŽd question your sanity

you can tell good stories just about everything. but just the names "he-man" and "she-ra" makes me wanna smoke crack
I was not a big fan of He-Man in the day, though I liked She-Ra a bit better. Regardless, I'm familiar with all the costumed designs and can't think of any visual depiction that's at all "pornographic."

To each his own, I guess.

The origins of an idea never bothered me be it novels, comic books or cartoons designed to sell toys to children. If I find something that interests me, I do enjoy discussing it. I never really cared the figures used recycled parts or were basically knock-off Conan the Barbarian figures, my imagination and creativity allowed me to have fun with them. Of course everyone's mileage may vary, so I can see why it wouldn't appeal to other people.

The ridiculous over-the-top nature of the characters may repel you, but to me it's part of the reason why I like it. Caricatures of humanity depicted through musclebound warriors, scantily clad sorceresses, monstrous villains of every shape and size- all bordering and crossing the line of absurdity is highly entertaining to me.

Of course as with any creative work (especially one like MOTU and She-Ra with their myriad of cartoons, comic books and supplemental material) it is open to re-imaginings, reinterpretation, and additions of concepts and ideas to the franchise. Take Battlestar Galactica for instance, originally a cheesy 1970's Star Wars imitator re-imagined in the 2000's into a successful and celebrated television series. The core ideas, even most characters are still present in both iterations but it's the reinterpretation and additions or subtractions that transformed it into something more than it's predecessor.

I'm not trying to sell these cartoons as something greater that what they are, but to dismiss them out of hand and postulate they can never be anything more than what they are because of their genesis and then deride those who would think otherwise is very uncharitable.
i agree with you on almost everything. i love the variety of MOTU characters. i remember listening to a audio book about stardust and zodiak.that was amazing. MOTU is sci-fantasy pulp. and i can enjoy it for what is it. but 80s MOTU has to evolve from **** and muscle to be taken serious today. 80s action figures looked like greg land wet dreams. i donŽt need that. if you redefine the MOTU, it can be a very entertaining high fantasy franchise.

take this step first. maybe then we can discuss "she-ra" modern role models
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I would love to see what they would do with Shadow Weaver, she was always my favorite.
You are absolutely right. Also they should start without the Rebellion and build that slowly. She-Ra must travek through Etheria with Bow and Glimmer to recruit the members in the different realms.

I'm a gigantic He-man/She-ra nerd and have tons of toys, the mini-comics, and giant character/episode guides, etc.

I got a couple of those thought they were way too dark for MOTU. I think she-Ra even got possessed by Hordak after she killed him that was bad.

If they re-boot She-Ra they should just go the Supergirl route. Have girl power but not heavy handed feminist messages being pushed all day.

Well Supergirl does kind of get heavy handed about all of that at times but it was already girl power She-Ra, given that there's only like one guy on the shows roster...

Yeah Bow lol dude had a rose on his chest or something lol. And Hordak and his goons were the only other guys not too many options, He-Man showed up quite a bit tho. they had some good episodes making a point that She-Ra had it harder than him, she had to remind him a couple of times they weren't on eternia and the good guys didn't have the advantage. Come to think of it I'm not sure that show needs much updating.

I haven't seen the new season of Supergirl I'll catch up when it comes on netflix. But I never got that it was heavy handed from the 1st and 2nd seasons.

It was a heart. The toy had it were it would "beat", the cartoon simply took the surface design and not the function (thank goodness).

Anyway, he wasn't the only guy. Sea Hawk, her would-be love interest, showed up a bit. Not as much as He-Man but he had a good chunk of episodes. And I guess the comic reliefs/Orko stand-ins Kowl Broom and Loo-Kee count since they were all guys.

And Hordak and his goons were the only other guys not too many options
On the other hand, though, Hordak had more than one token henchwoman unlike Skeletor. In addition to Evil-Lyn's direct analog Shadow Weaver we had Catra, Scorpia, Octavia, and Entrapta. With the exception of Catra and Entrapta they were all made up for the show so I guess Filmation saw at least one side needed a decent mix of male and female. I'll always wonder why they didn't just pull from He-Man's roster to add to She-Ra's roster, the toys we would have seen if He-Man wasn't replaced by She-Ra at that point. Namely Clamp Champ and Rio Blast.

To me, thumbs down to the series by Abnett, David and Mhan. The comicbook characters Adora and Adam are stand-ins of the comicbook characters Red Sonja and Conan the Barbarian. UNexciting.
