I'm very excited and yet cautiously concerned about this movie. I absolutely want a Dark Phoenix movie but I really want a GOOD one. And honestly, I wish they would take the time to build up Jean and Scott more, do a Phoenix movie and then a Dark Phoenix movie a year or two later. Not to say that they can't do a good story in one movie, just wish we could have that build up. And then let that be the end of the X-Men series (or Deadpool 3 which ever is last.)

And yes, the fact that a female is the main protagonist and antagonist is a huge change in direction for the X-Men movies, which basically have been oriented between the struggle between two white dudes (Xavier and Magneto). Just the fact the film is titled Dark Phoenix, after the female antagonist is a dramatic change.

To reply to ChildOfTheAtom: I have no idea how representative or typical those comments you quoted are. How could anyone know? We would need to be remotely scientific and try to use surveys or something to measure the actual overall fan mood or impression.

For all I know those could just be the same typical whiners who just think MCU is the greatest and anything else must suck. It has become the default cool thing to say "Fox X movies suck, MCU rules". It doesnt take a lot of guts to say something like that on social media, mostly you'll get agreement from other ignorant people when you say it. It's easy and cheap. But I am interested in opinions of people who actually watch the X-movies. How they feel about the 3 upcoming, not the typical people who just instinctively hate or bash everything because it isn't MCU

Whoops, the writer's strike has been declared. I guess this won't make its release date after all. Even Deadpool 2 is questionable. Only The New Mutants seem to be safe for now as Kinberg said the scripting would be finalised in April.
