C2E2 Update: Emma Frost & Polaris Return During Secret Empire!

... In X-Men: Blue #7, the young X-Men will be involved in the conflict with Hydra. The young heroes will serve as resistance fighters as the world is changing. “They need to push back,” said Harrington. Some dude is getting kicked in the face by Beast in the artwork from the issue and it looks great. Guest characters will be introduced in this arc that will have integral roles. New issue covers featuring Emma Frost and Polaris were displayed. Emma went underground after IVX and Cullen Bunn will be examining her new psyche. Harrington described it as “fabulous.” She also noted that it will add some layers and complexity to the character as she moves into the new status quo. Polaris is there for “reasons we can’t talk about yet,” but will have connections to some other heroes and villains. ...

... The mutants of Marvel will work into the story too, but they’ve got their own major villains returning as well in “X-Men: Blue.” Harrington said, “Our young heroes are resistance fighters…all they can do is push back and push back.”

The crossover issues will feature the return of the Hellions and the gun-armed mutant known as Random, but the characters fans would be more interested to hear about returning arrive in issues #8 and 9. That is where fans will see both Emma Frost and Polaris arrive to complicate the lives of the time-displaced mutant team for the foreseeable future. “It was always our goal to bring Emma back into ‘X-Men: Blue,'” the editor said, saying that while Frost has been through some dark times of late, she’s not turned into a villain.

The editor also said that Emma will sport a new costume inspired by her classic White Queen style, and the diamond form of the character will be breaking back out as she clashes with Hydra. Meanwhile, the latest take on Polaris will be very much in her traditional mold as Art Adams cover for issue #9 plays on her iconic Steranko “X-Men” cover. ...

Yet another update, once again from BleedingCool.com, Emma Frost & Polaris Returning in X-Men Blue:

... At the Secret Empire panel at C2E2, it was revealed that fan-favourite characters Emma Frost and Polaris will be returning in X-Men Blue with issues 8 and 9 respectively.

These are issues tying into the Secret Empire event, and we already knew that Emma Frost would be leading a mutant resistance against Hydra Cap’s occupation of America. What is interesting to note with the cover image for Emma’s return issue by Arthur Adams, shown at the panel, is Emma’s costume looks more like her classic original costume (though probably still black, because when you’re best known as the White Queen, wearing black, just like everyone else, is the way to go). But thankfully the Magneto/Cyclops hybrid helmet is gone, and I don’t see the weird 90s Spawn-inspired studs anywhere…could they have listened to the general online consensus that her new look at the end of IvX was atrocious and didn’t fit the character at all and made some adjustments? Or is this just a trick of the extreme close up?

Similarly of note is Polaris’ cover, which also features Xorn. We are told that Polaris is “there for reasons we can’t talk about yet”. Could it be connected to whatever role Magneto is playing in the Secret Empire? Could she be trying to talk some sense into him about joining up with the definitely-not-Nazi’s-but-totally-have-internment-camps Hydra? If that is indeed the case?

We shall see shortly, I suppose, as with a twice a month release schedule, it won’t take us long to get to issues eight and nine. ...

I'm ready for lots of Emma in Blue and in the Secret Empire side book, too. Polaris, Random and new Hellions should also be epic. Just throw in Magik on Emma's side and I'll be complete.

Xorn's the only one I'm iffy about. And they still need to add a new female member. But other than that, I'm loving everything I'm hearing so far. I'd love if the Hellions were a Frenemy Team to the O5, if only to add more candidates to the dating pool.

People are speculating that the red-haired one is Lorelei.

I'm praying that the blonde woman is Skids, considering her relationship to Magneto.

Magneto out pretending to be Xorn while he is fighting for Hydra at the same time? That seems a tad excessive unless there is more to the Magneto/Hydra story incoming as I expect.

Looks like Lorna is either on Hydra's side for whatever reason or is working with Emma or Magneto against Hydra and has to keep herself undercover...guess we'll find out later...would explain why Magneto is trying to get in good with Hydra Cap if Lorna is with him to find out what they did to her...
