Guardians of the Galaxy recommended reading

I love the MCU Guardians of the Galaxy movie (and am looking forward to Vol 2 coming out soon!). However I've never read any of the comics. For someone that really enjoyed the movie, which comics would you recommend I read? Thanks for any recommendations!

Honestly? None of them. Drax and Quill as portrayed since the movie are not the characters that they had been historically.

it sounds like Abnett & Lanning's run is the recommended starting point, starting with Annihilation Conquest. What do you think?

I would say for sure check out any of the Rocket Raccoon or Groot books.
Most specifically:
Rocket Raccoon (2014)
Groot (2015)
Rocket Raccoon And Groot (2015)

They're all just incredibly funny and enjoyable reads, and you can jump into at any point.

I'd also personally add the Legendary Star-Lord and Star-Lord books, I think those tell some really great stories with the character.

Thanos Redemption (Optional reading not super important but sets up the start of Annihilation and introduces Peter Quill)
Annihilation
Annihilation Conquest
Guardians of the Galaxy (Abnett and Lanning's run)
War of Kings
Realm of Kings
Thanos Imperative
I also recommend Abnett and Lanning's run on Nova. It crosses over with all the events and is excellent and really adds to the cosmic universe.

I also recommend avoiding anything written by Bendis he destroyed the characters.
