Plus the movie outright states that the Sovereign that they are very easily pissed off. Something that was carried through the whole movie. The batteries really don't need to be that big of a deal, as I got the feeling for the Sovereign its the principle of the thing.

They let Rockets insults slide barely but yea it was the principle of the matter when they realized he stole from them. The bounty on the guardians was higher then the batterys value it sounded like.

Watched it again tonight. Damn this might top Winter Soldier as my favorite movie. It's so close.

Imagine if during the confrontation between Logan and Laura in the truck after they leave the clinic, his claws randomly pop out and slice through his junk and we spent the next few minutes watching them scream in terror at this lols random stuff. That's the first two "acts" of this movie, literally any scene that could potentially get you invested has some stupid BS gag that's supposed to be funny insert itself into scenes it has no business being in with the skillfulness of a runaway train operated by a crack head.

Are you getting invested in Ego's introduction, giving you insight into the plight of a sad, lonely God? Have no fear! Instead of being invested it anything that matters, here's a lolz exchange about if Ego has a dick and how could he have slept with Peter's mom! It's not even clever exchanges that naturally feel funny like Rocket telling Yondu's awful teeth ruin his smile, it's like a moronic 15 year old inserting dumb jokes every chance he can.

And then there's the third act that feels like if Logan ended with a big MoS/Avengers level destruction porn fest that feels like the total antithesis of the character piece movie they were going for earlier. And don't tell me we NEED a big fuck off action set piece cause they let Doctor Strange subvert that trope and that dealt with a cosmic God coming to devour the planet. That's the kind of ending we should've gotten here but nah, Ego's a total bastard in every possible way so Peter will feel just fine with spending the next 30 minutes destroying him, can't have Ego have some nuance to maybe make it slightly more interesting either, he's a child murdering, tumor giving POS so screw him!

As you can tell, I was not a fan of this movie at all. It feels like Gunn wanted to do a more personnel film and a 15-year olds version of a satuday morning cartoon and the cartoon one consistently got in the way of the better direction before devouring it entirely for the third act.

It was disappointing they made Ego a disposable, dog-kicking villain (albeit one who delusionally thinks he was being merciful/kind) instead of a recurring, more neutral party like in the comics But other than that, I was satisfied with the overall package.

I get why people are liking this one but I feel like Gunn was too at odds with himself in regards to what kind of movie he wanted to make and he stuck too much to certain quirks people liked about the movie to the point of this one feeling like a parody of the original. Like Drax, in the first one he's too literal but here he feels like he's an actual moron who's lucky to get out of bed in the morning without tripping over nothing and breaking his own neck.

Drax seemed more like a cuckoolander than a moron. Like his cleverness and wisdom was there, but masked beneath a laundry list of bizarre (by everyone else's standards) social quirks.

That reminds me: Gunn's going to have to get creative with Warlock's character, because MCU Vision's seems to based more on Adam's classic nice-guy "all life is precious" self from 616. Making Warlock's personality a 1-to-1 adaptation would just be retreading Age of Ultron again. My solution is to keep the essentials of that but replace the nice-guy part with a holier-than-thou, bigoted dickbag that finds himself struggling to get along with the rest of the misfits.

No he's an actual moron, quite clearly not understanding the most basic of things sometimes and being completely incapable to grasp how Ego can impregnate Peter's mom when the guy is LITERALLY standing right in front of him, in a body that's essentially human. Hell, he even knows Ego can take a piss, confirming he has a dick, because he says and does so in their nighttime forest conversation! That's not being overtaken by personality quirks, that's being an idiot.

Drax is an actual moron in this movie. I'd go so far as to say he's an avatar for how this movie thinks its audience is: unable to get invested in anything ever at all unless you assault them with comedy at any possible opportunity.

Yeah. The pacing of the slapstick could use some refining. Maybe Gunn can get some pointers from Edgar Wright for the next one. More emphasis on clever visual comedy (ala. the Blood & Ice Cream trilogy) instead of wacky conversations..........In fact, I'd say if he gets tired of the cosmic side of the MCU, Marvel should call up Wright and him pick up where Gunn left off.

He is an alien. He has probably seen all sorts of strange manners of mating. Being a planet he must've still wanted to know if his avatar was a 100% true human.
