    Default Manga Talk

In the absence of the Anime/Manga forum, I didn't know whether to put this here or in the Independent Forum.

Since we already have a Go Nagai thread here, I ended up leaning towards this one. If it's not okay, then please move the thread to the appropriate forum.

Anyway, talk about the Manga you like here. Shounen, Shoujo, Josei, Seinen. Popular or barely known. It's all good.

    Hurray for manga!

What are folks reading now a days?

Just tried One Punch Man a few weeks ago and... yeah, mixed feelings about that one. I first heard about it on Twitter, and people were hyping the hell out of those gloriously over the top 2 page spread, flip book-esque sequences. They looked fantastic and I was all excited to start reading it because of those, but sadly they're not in the digital collections. Apparently Murata redrew those scenes for the collections, and the 2 page spreads are exclusive to the serialized edition of the series. It really bummed me out. It's still pretty enjoyable, but it's like watching an R-rated action movie on network television, you know?

Yeah, the original artist isn't the greatest in the world. I don't think he even breaks even. On the other hand, his choreography usually holds up. I would say he has good timing, but it is in picture format.... And Murata's apparently been doing hte redraw in his spare time - possibly pro bono!

Any other Jojo fans? Been a fan ever since I saw a fansub on VHS back in the day ('99?). The new series has been doing a wonderful job, too. Joseph's been my favorite of the Jojo's, though I've only completely read through the first 5 arcs. Stone Ocean I had an issue with missing some chapters, and I've only gotten so far in Steel Ball Run. Not touched Jojolion.

Huh.... must be tired, think I babbled there.

It's a bummer that Murata's redrawing it multiple times for different formats though. The sizzle that sold me on it was that two page spread sequences, they're pretty jaw dropping. Without them you have a good looking superhero comedy, but when you include them the series becomes something really special. I might have look into getting a digital SJ subscription through Viz, just for those. Got some extra iTunes cash lying around that I can't use on Comixology now, so hey.

I've read FMA, Akira, and Monster.

Could probably use some recommendations, I've gotten a bit bored with US comics.

You absolutely have to try Real by Takehiko Inoue. The art is beautiful and the story telling takes you on a ride(kinda like Akira). Also, D. Grayman is a funny/action packed read like FMA. The first few chapters are kind of slow, but the series really gets into its groove later.

Right now I'm reading Not Simple, which is a Viz Signature book. It's stabbing me in the feels.

I'm picking up the Trigun and Lone Wolf and Cub omnibuses Dark Horse has been putting out. I'm hoping they will start releasing Oh My Goddess omnibuses. Ranma is next.

I reread Tsubasa recently, to see if it makes any more sense the second time around. (It made marginally more sense.)

I love D.Gray-man. Both the anime and manga were fun for me personally. It's too bad about the on and off again hiatus of the mangaka. The rumors are that she's had health issues, but I'm not sure how much of that is true without hearing it from the source directly.

Currently reading Naruto and Billy Bat. The first doesn't need any presentation; the second is the best manga you're not reading (mainly because it's not being published in many countries, I think).

New Naruto Chapter out, got to understand the whole reason behind Rin's death and Madara's manipulation. I kind of like it, a little luck but a lot of evil genius. Madara is basically a Sith lord. Kakashi questions Sasuke about his new dream, so new questions arise and it looks like Team 7 is truly back together for this fight.

Billy Bat is now the best thing I've googled today. Thanks, I think I'm going to really enjoy it.
