Default Characters who changed to fit their code name?

I was thinking about how at least three characters from the early X-Men comics had metaphorical code names, but later underwent changes to make the code names more literal:

    1. The Beast was basically just a normal-looking human who was a bit like an ape, but a few years later he literally turned into a beast.
    2. The Scarlet Witch was not a witch, just a mutant whose powers resembled hexes or curses. She later studied witchcraft and has been considered mostly a magic character for some time.
    3. The Toad was so called because of his suck-up behavior to Magneto, but he later got some of the physical qualities of a toad.

Are there other examples of this that come to mind, where a character was changed to make their code names more accurate?

One other one that comes to my mind is that in The Crossing, the Wasp mutated into a human-insect hybrid. That didn't last long though.

Black Widow looks like she's hoping some writer doesn't turn her into an actual black widow.

Spider-Man grew up to be an actual man and not a teenager .

And there's also that time he transformed into Man-Spider or went through his whole "Other" phase .

Speaking of Spider-Man, there was the original Tarantula who mutated into a giant spider.

Beast and Scarlet Witch would be the two number one offenders. Beast wasn't a beast, at all. And then he was. Scarlet Witch was a mutant, not a witch, then she was a mutant *and* a witch, and now she's just a witch.

Wolverine almost turned into a manimal / anthropomorphic wolverine or some such nonsense, but I think that's been swept under the rug.

Nightcrawler, named after a big fat worm, is now wearing a body made up of demon maggots...

Spider-Woman has gone in the opposite direction, intended to be a spider who became a woman, IIRC (something to do with the High Evolutionary?), has had her origin changed a couple times and is, as far as I know, just a woman with powers like flight and pheromones and energy blasts, which aren't even terribly spider-themed...

Moondragon had literally nothing to do with moons or dragons, until, boom, suddenly there was this 'Dragon of the Moon' creature possessing her. Oy.

In Spider-Woman's case, she can stick to walls (she just doesn't do it as much because she can fly) and has enhanced senses as well, on top of the usual superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, and agility that one would expect from a Spider-prefix character. The flight is actually explainable in that some spiders do glide on air currents and pheromones are also used by some female spiders to attract males. As for the energy blasts, they're called "venom blasts" because they're supposed to be a substitute for actual spider venom and are bioelectric in nature.
The spider is always on the hunt.

Did you just say that to see if anyone would notice, or is that an actual thing?

Blue Diamond was a human with superstrength and near invulnerability. He was later turned into a humanoid diamond form. Super obscure, but hey.

Back in the Silver Age, Black Widow was an actual widow. Her husband later turned up alive as the Red Guardian, so I'm not sure she counts as one anymore, granted. Thing is, I'm not sure this was said in her first appearance, so she might fit the topic at hand.

It's an actual thing. Nightcrawler died and went to hell, and while there met some critters that were originally demon maggots, who fed from him and turned into bamfs. He promised them something (later revealed to be his soul) in exchange for them all busting out of hell together. Bamfs at Xaviers merged into a single body for Nightcrawler to occupy, and hence the character's return.

Now, since his soul is gone, given to the Bamfs for whatever reason, and his body is dead, replaced by the one created from the bodies of Bamfs, it begs the question, what the hell is this character. He's not got Nightcrawler's body. He's not got Nightcrawler's soul. He *does* have the appearance of Nightcrawler, and his powers, and his memories.

    Ah, comic books.

On the upside, he's not the Pope or anything. Anymore.

Eh. If the Illyana-golemn can be accepted as the real deal by those closest to her, I guess we're not supposed to think too closely about what it means for Kurt either.

Belasco cloned Magik, as he remembered her, so we got a version that never got aged back to child status like the real Illyana did before she died from the Legacy Virus but later she regained her own real soul.

Anyway Emma Frost. She used to just have telepath powers but she can now turn diamond.
